I am glad that you do not share your parents belief in that matter, as is often the case.

Circumcision
It is a sad fact that she had the choice. She did have the choice, however, no matter if you think she deserved it or not, or whether you think this choice is valid from another angle such as personal morality and freedom. I think it's important to acknowledge this fact and work towards a time when this choice is not available. Perhaps it would be more fitting to say she had the power to enforce it at her disposal then. Either way she chose not to use it. I see your point. It is like (on a smaller scale) congratulating a person for not killing another, even though they could have done. However, such a comparison is ignoring the fact that the practice of circumcision is very much a part of the culture that she lives in and therefore she is bucking a trend. I personally believe that this should be looked upon positively. You are welcome to your own opinion however.

Rovers don't want Rooney either.

Circumcision
A fair point but I don't think this is necessary to spark a mass mutilation of babies. There are always going to be sicko's around.

Cyber-bullying
The internet is changing. The way it is likely to be very different in a decade. Many believe it will become a much more capitalist place. Google are looking into changing the way the internet is run. Right now it is a fair playing field for everyone. I can access this site, just as fast as any other site. In the future however it is believed that websites and companies will have to pay money to get a better connection speed for people to use their site. Therefore smaller sites will be much slower to access, and the big sites with lots of advertising will be used more and more frequently as it will be easier. This way it will be a lot easier to control what more and more people see (for example imagine what it would be like if the fastest news site available was the Daily Mail). There will be a monopoly on the internet, much like there is in big business today and with the introduction of iphones etc, with their applications and one click access to places like facebook, people will become even lazier and more reliant on these larger websites. People are fighting Google (and another major company who I have forgotten the name of) in order to prevent this happening and to keep the internet a free and fair place. If you can direct the majority of people to one place it will be easier to tighten the grip on people fucking around though, back to your point. How much of a difference it will make on bullying I do not know.

Worth it :smug:

Evolution vs. Creationism!
They will if people discuss them. Which other ones would you like to see dismantled?

The Goodnight Thread
Gonna grab a nap for a couple of hours.
-
Soooo,
Incidentally, you created a thread which could become sensitive haha. Freedom of speech is close to peoples heart, especially when it comes to religion.
-
Soooo,
I know, but I was just saying what I think. If people are sound in their beliefs, and they are unshakable then they will not care about the threads. If people are not sound, then I think it only fair that these things should be discussed and they should do their own research into the matters themselves so as to develop their opinions or beliefs. If they are offended then they have the choice either to discuss it here or avoid the thread altogether. Providing nobody is being targeted (and I'm sure if they were then the mods would step in) and it is being discussed maturely, then there won't be a problem. I would much rather it be discussed than ignored as it is very much a part of peoples lives.

That awfully crying child
Your sleep is never simple. First noisy sex, now this! I don't think I would go upstairs, I'd just sleep with my iPod in, since I do that anyway.
-
Soooo,
Yes. I also believe these things should be discussed.

This kid's feisty.

Listening Party
I think pre-recorded shows would be better. And also have it repeated a few times a week so everyone can have the chance to listen to it.

Circumcision
Considering she had the choice to have her baby cirumcised or not, it was her choice. If you are saying that it shouldn't be her choice, then fair enough, but unfortunately we live in a world where mutilating children is an option.

Circumcision
I think it would go well alongside it.

Evolution vs. Creationism!
Then what should people decide should be taken literally and what shouldn't? And where does it say it shouldn't be taken literally? If a person is basing their views simply on the morals that a religious text teaches then this is more understandable, but morals have been taught long before the religions we know today came about. Those without religion have morals, at the same ratio as those with religion. I wouldn't question the casual interest in a religion such as the Catholic church, were it not for the homophobia, self service (to a point that severely damages other peoples lives - preying on the poor and uneducated in order to dictate how they should live their lives and spread lies in the third world about topics such as condom use) and constant cover up of child rapes. Were it not for things such as these I would not care for people supporting such a religion casually, but unfortunately my own personal morals are too great. Pious members of the church can be good people, to the same degree as all people of all faiths and those without, and so I am not attacking them but I think they should understand exactly what it is that they are supporting, particularly if it is in such a flippant manner. If members of the church do not believe entirely in what their religion teaches (for example the homophobia), then I don't believe they should bother sticking by it. I think they should develop their own ideals instead of allowing many of the dogma's to be forced on them, or ignoring some of the more sinister teachings. Why on earth would somebody believe something so poisoned and negative, which restricts their freedom and attempts to fill them with guilt, if they know deep down that in their heart they disagree with a lot of what the religious texts teach? Basically my rambling point is that if it is simply community and morals you require, then there are far better ways to achieve them than by following such a dangerous organisation. Develop your own ideals, believe in what you want to believe by all means (although if you are gong to enter debate regarding what you have decided, expect to be challenged, since this is a discussion), but don't follow something which encroaches in other peoples lives and expect people not to judge you for it. I answered this question with the presumption that you do not believe that homosexuality is evil and that all practising homosexuals are going to hell, but please tell me if I'm wrong. I am confident that you don't believe that however.

Is Coldplaying really the best place to go for romantic advice?
Approach at pace, with a twisted smile on your face and simply ask 'What are your views on cirumcision?'

Evolution vs. Creationism!
That hasn't always been the Christian belief, and many were persecuted for suggesting it. Christianity is the great evolver, since clearly God keeps changing his mind on what he actually wants.

Evolution vs. Creationism!
Wow, they managed to fit two of every animal on that thing? And stopped them from eating each other. And presumably went around the world beforehand to find things such as penguins and polar bears which wouldn't have been around where he supposedly built the ark.

Evolution vs. Creationism!
Pics didn't work for me either. On a side note my (Muslim) friends at my old work a few years ago believed that Noah's Ark had been found, but it had be hushed up because they found information in it that could be dangerous and spark wars. They also believed that soon there would be a war between the Muslims and Christians against the Jews and women, and that the winner would decide who inherited the earth (the Jews and the women would be on Satan's side of course). When I asked about pro-creation after the war if the Muslims and Christians won he said some of the women would be kept as slaves for that very purpose.

The Womanly Thread
I would not want that contact with a person I had just met. It would also have to be a kind of everyone or no one rule too, because if you were meeting a group of people who were all really nice and then one who clearly had bad hygiene then you couldn't kiss the cheeks of everyone but that person, and I sure as hell am not going to be kissing them, so the others can fuck off if they are expecting one :p

WTF That person should be reported and sacked. Fuck. Don't worry, I don't think bad of you, I just can't believe somebody would tell you that. Well, actually, tragically I can.
