  1. I'll reply to this properly tomorrow :)
  2. I see where you're coming from. A bit less hobo though.
  3. Ainsley releases hers first. Then Nathans a day later. That way we definitely see both and nothing happens where Ainsley's doesn't come through. She can PM it to a few peeps who can distribute it to those interested, too. Conspiring in plain view.
  4. My review: As I said, liking the tracklisting. Bloody good touch. I have a few ideas who it could be but I'm by no means confident. Track one: Nice piano piece. Very bright. Upbeat start. Sounds like Yann Tiersen maybe. Track two: The intro vocals remind me a bit of Guy Garvey's song with Massive Attack for some reason. Especially the remix version on the Splitting The Atom EP. Goes well with the music. Quite poppy but the vocals drag it away from that, especially with the layers. Not what I'd normally listen to, so glad it was on here as it's not really a genre I'm particularly exposed to. Track three: A remix of Satisfaction by Ben Benassi (I think that's what he was called). Not an awful lot happens through the song but it's good for background music. The most chilled version of the song I've heard. Track four: Slow song (at the start, anyway). Was sceptical at the start that it might be too cheesey but turned out quite well. Some nice strings on there too. Don't recognise the voice. Piano very Coldplay'y. Enjoyed the shouting. Track five: Short track, different to all that it's followed. Sounds DJ Shadow'y. Worked very well. Liked it. Track six: Starts with New Order-esque drums. Then becomes a bit more indie as the guitars kick in. The vocals are very New Order in the verses, in fact. Bizarre Love Triangle in places. Decent enough song but not feeling the voice of the lead singer too much. Track seven: Folky song. Another one that works well. Strong voice. She reminds me a tiny bit of one of the singers from Gomez. Track eight: Haha, this sounds like music from a Call Of Duty or something like that. Or an action film. Was quite a departure from the last track. I can imagine people marching and a montage of things happening. Unusual choice for the mixtape but it made me smile. Track ten: Back to a slow song. Enjoyed it. Track eleven: Faster track. Not a fan of the voice on this one I'm afraid. Track twelve: A short one. Uneventful but not in a bad way. Track thirteen: Piano again. The first line made me laugh - a little cliched. I like it when the vocals become layered but the lead singer takes himself a little seriously. Trying a little hard to emotional. It's interesting with the high pitched parts though. Something a little different for this kind of song. Track fourteen: Piano again haha. That's not a problem though. Reminds me a tiny bit of Blue Clouds by Daniel Johnston at the start. Gospel style backing vocals. Liking this mixtape so far as pretty much every song has something that's unexpected for the song. Track fifteen: The percussion at the start reminds me of Bloom by Brian Eno, though the song itself is very different to that. A female vocalist I liked. Really liked the end of the song and would have liked to have heard them do something with that kind of chiming. Track sixteen: Nice piano. Another one here I can't click with the voice. I'm not sure why but I'm very picky with female singers. I think being male I find it harder to relate with a female voice and therefore it either has to be something special. I'm not sure exactly what that things is though. Track seventeen: Like it all but the vocals. Musically interesting. Like a poppier version of Animal Collective. Could be them I guess since I've not heard the new stuff and I think they might have gone poppier. Plenty of stuff going on. Track eighteen: Pop song. Don't know who's singing though. More piano. Not my kind of thing but it's not bad. These kind of songs usually annoy me but this one definitely doesn't. Track nineteen: Slow song. Vocally fine. Decent song overall. Track twenty: Piano to close with. Nicely played. Once again it reminds me of something and I can't quite put my finger on it. Nice end. Overall I enjoyed it. It was filled with music I wouldn't normally listen to and there was something in pretty much every song for me. Piano heavy but that was fine. Thanks, whoever it was that made it. I'm specifically interested in finding out who made the first track and the DJ Shadow'y song too.
  5. When you become Alice and Alice becomes something that isn't Alice, my dear fellow.
  6. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. How long does it take to make those things?
  7. I'm listening to mine now for the first time... Promising start Nice job with the tracklisting
  8. I'll think of some questions.
  9. OK, back from my holiday. I'm downloading my tape now so will be reviewing tomorrow. As for the one I made: Apologies for the format. A few years ago when I was involved in an exchange Crests made me a tape in that way and I think it stops you looking at how long each song is so you don't know what's coming next. I can understand why it was so daunting though, so sorry about that. Thanks for the patience and getting through it! As for the direction I was just trying to make it summery, but didn't spend too long ordering as I didn't know how to pitch it so in the end I just went with what felt right. OK, here's the tracklisting: 1. The Flaming Lips - Are You A Hypnotist?? 2. CocoRosie - Brazilian Sun 3. The Black Angels - Bad Vibrations 4. Goldmund - Threnody 5. Atlas Sound - Requiem For All The Lonely Teenagers With Passed Out Moms 6. Milly Mildish - J-Star 7. Tame Impala - Half Full Glass Of Wine 8. The Dead Texan - When I See Scissors, I Cannot Help But Think Of You 9. The Kinks - This Strange Effect 10. Captain Beefheart - Her Eyes Are A Blue Million Miles 11. Labi Siffre - I Got The 12. Beck - Cellphones Dead 13. Scout Niblett - Nevada 14. Brian Eno - Third Uncle 15. Connan Mockasin - Forever Dolphin Love (Live) 16. Bobby Womack - Please Forgive My Heart
  10. That there's little point in sleeping when you have to be up at 02:15 to get ready for your holiday. OK GUYS, I'LL BE BACK IN A WEEK. HAVE FUN.
  11. Quite possibly. Stuck on it at the moment. I'm one for concepts (not in terms of the concept of the writing, more an interesting idea explained within the book), clear narratives and character development that's easily charted. It's why I don't like poetry and Shakespeare. Very little patience. I'm better at Dostoevsky than simply a book of poetry. It's bad because I know I'm missing out. I just don't care too much for descriptive writing. I'm enjoying The Waves so far but I burn out on these things quickly. Whilst it's been good I just feel I can walk away and come back whenever and it won't matter if I don't remember it all. Which is what has happened.
  12. If you came somewhere close to where I was then I'd meet you. Not sure where I'll be until the time comes though.
  13. Well you can all fuck off then, can't you?
  14. Je vais demain!! Well, in about four hours I set off to the airport, actually.
  15. Just a reminder to my partner, I am on holiday tomorrow until the 3rd of August so won't even be able to receive it until then. I hope to listen on the Saturday and review on the Sunday once it's sunk in (that's the fourth). But yeah, I'm not ignoring it, just away.
  16. I'm not playing second fiddle.
  17. I have two memories relating to Romania. One is a film we watched in Primary School about an orphanage there, set to the music of Everybody Hurts by REM. The other is the national football team dying their hair blonde for a tournament. Mixed bag of memories.
  18. How come?
  19. Paralysing. You don't wanna be lax on child abuse and you don't wanna be a perv.
  20. Damn. Make it 5.
