The limitations of democracy (in its current manifestation, within your culture)
I feel the need to stress, first and foremost, that I am not advocating that we leave democracy as the way in which authority is determined. I simply wish to use this thread in order to look at the pitfalls of the democracy in our respective cultures. These pitfalls may be far smaller than any alternatives currently available, but this does not necessarily mean that they should not be discussed. Possible areas of discussion: The constraints that time limits on tenures in position of authority and how that hinders our ability to make long term plans (particularly environmental), given that the default position of any challenging political party is one of disagreement. The different manifestations of democracy and which elements you feel are most beneficial. This can include comparisons to the origins of democracy and models from ancient times The specific political model in your culture (be it a system of direct representation, a first past the post system (as seen in the UK), issues involving local governments or federal governments, excessive power being held in the capitals or major cities of different cultures. Areas outside of democracy that could need to be changed to maximise the benefits of your current manifestation of democracy (such as the way the media reports political news, how transparent the political parties in your countries are, the emphasis placed on appearance and PR as opposed to meaningful political debate

I'm sorry. Someone says they'd be disgusted if they signed a lady boy and now I'm a tit for pulling them up about it? Maybe there is something lost in translation, but here a lady boy is somebody who has had a sex change. They are a minority group and they face stigmatisation and violence. In my town this year a teacher who came back after the holidays as a woman was hounded by the press and committed suicide. In other areas it can be more serious, such as the high murder rates they face in places like south america. They have high self harm and suicide rates, partly because of the reaction they receive from people like yourself (if indeed you were referring to lady boys). If by lady boys you meant effeminate men, then this is still a bit strange. Why would you hate them so much? Why do they seem to threaten and disgust you? I don't see why it matters. Maybe it's a language barrier, but your use of the derogatory term 'slag' in another recent post leads me to believe you are a very judgemental person and somebody who believes the way to combat people who you disagree with is through hate.- The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread
Same as usual. He posts loads of pure crap that nobody takes any interest in and then when you try and interact and pin down an actual point it becomes the biggest chore. The worst poster on the board, who also appears to harbour a lot of hate towards a minority group too.- The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread
Once again, I understand what you are saying. I'm simply asking you what your point is. Why would you be disgusted if you'd signed a 'ladyboy'?- The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread

I'm guessing I'm either on ignore, or being ignored, but I'd appreciate an answer Bart. Reilly (or anybody else), please quote me or repeat the question. I'd pull him up on his slapper comment but let's take things one step at a time (or rather, I can't be bothered this second given the time)- DRUGS!!
That's the guy. No idea what he's like as a person but his book is interesting. I don't agree with some of his opinions, but the science of the book is there to see.- The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread

Apologies for interacting with him btw Reilly. I can't let stuff like that go, though. No need for it.- Crime in England compared to America
Yeah i wanted to post about guns but I didn't have the energy and it's hard when you're talking to people who actually believe they need them. And that's not me insulting Nick. It's just the situation he's in and this is just the situation I'm in.- Crime in England compared to America

Indeed. It's part of the reason why I've written down some of my experiences in this thread. Good old posterity. Obviously it won't be left on here forever. The book by Nutt is very good so far. It's talking about how natural it is for humans to drugs given our evolution. The fact we have developed positive experiences from these drugs (which are supposed to be a poison developed by a plant) shows that we have been doing it long before we were human. Originally we would have had negative effects from them, but we must have taken some positives from them in order to continue, and these positives have been improved over thousands of years as we evolved. Then with our experimental nature we have learned to access the drugs in different ways. Whether it's smoking, utilising of coffee beans, brewing, synthesising, injecting, we've found ways to maximise the pleasure. Obviously this has affected the potency and dependency levels though. But the actual intake of drugs is clearly part of the human biology given our developed reactions.- The Official Club Football 2014-2015 thread
I said what's wrong with lady boys? You ****.- DRUGS!!
I wouldn't have done it in the past but I've changed a lot over the last few years. Ideally people would be fine, and if so, I'd recommend it to everybody. But that isn't the case. Not to mention there can be underlying issues that people aren't aware of that can be triggered. It's all about factoring the risks (mental, physical and legality), and that's down to the individual. It was fun. The best thing I've ever done I'd say.- DRUGS!!
Here you go Nick: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5528838&postcount=478- DRUGS!!
I'll link you to my experience in a second, but if you aren't sure and have any worries about it certainly don't do it.- Crime in England compared to America
I wouldn't say it has NOTHING to do with the gun laws. I do understand that people from areas without such laws may overplay them, but it will certainly contribute in some way. I would say that in other European countries they seem a hell of a lot less risky than in the places you are discussing, and America being the self appointed most awesome place and freest place ever, you have to question exactly why that is.- DRUGS!!
I went through a stage of having an interest in taking heroin as a one off (not injected) but it just wasn't worth it. Both the potential damage and the difficulty of getting it, then the addiction worry. My sister smoked heroin once (and once only) and liked it, but spoke of how addictive it was. In the end I just didn't see any form of benefit (say on a par with acid and the journey you go on with that, or marijuana as a thinking tool) that made it worth it. So yeah, went for acid and was happy with my choice. I wouldn't specifically recommend it for anybody else though.- Crime in England compared to America
Christ. We'd just call them perverts, flashers or public masturbators. I thought the Netherland's was a lot more easy going than that. I mean, I suppose masturbating in public is pretty easy going, but you know what I mean. More the other stuff. That's crazy. And the stuff in France too. I've been to the south coast (Montpellier a handful of times and Nice) and that always seemed fine. I've heard of Marseilles reputation though.- DRUGS!!
What is it like? It's one of those drugs I'd never take, a combination of the way it is portrayed in the media and also the addictive nature it has. I've just started reading Professor David Nutt's Drugs Without The Hot Air: Minimising The Harms of Legal and Illegal Drugs. For those who don't know, Nutt was a government advisor on drugs who was sacked for discussing drugs in a scientific manner and not demonising them. - NSA collecting phone records of millions daily, court order reveals
