Yep I know it's silly, but I just had to say something because whenever this thread dies for a few days or weeks someone always bumps it. I should probably stop posting now and let it die.

We have a snow storm here in Toronto and it's not fun!

I didn't pick the topic for the class, I am part of a group that teaches Grade 5 and 6 students about Conflict Resolution. I know the topic can be boring for young kids, but we play tons of games and have tons of activities! :laugh3: I wish I could Tnspieler1012 I wish I could No they didn't have us practice on real kids at all; they just showed us how to perform the various activities amongst ourselves Hopefully the shy kids will find the activities fun and they will participate more in them :\

Those are all very good The program I am teaching isn't centered around one subject. I have to prepare a 90 minute class with skits, small lectures, and games to teach the kids about bullying and how to deal with conflicts. My biggest concern is that the kids will go mental during the games and it will be difficult controlling them. Anyway, does anyone have any advice on how to deal with shy kids? How can I make a shy child open up and feel comfortable?

Grade 5 I think is 10 and 11 year olds. The only question I can think of right now is: What should I do if a kid is acting out, how do I discipline them without being too harsh?

I am a second year student at Uni, and for my Bachelor of Education degree I have to teach a grade 5 class starting from the 3rd of January. I have to teach the kids every week for about 90 minutes! Anyway, I just wanted some advice from fellow teachers on this board, since I have never taught a class before. Do you have any experience in teaching a class or in teaching young kids? If you do then some advice would be greatly appreciated? I am very nervous about this whole thing, and I am currently struggling to write a good lesson plan. Any hands on, practical advice is welcome.
