  1. Yes it is. Met a man from Taiwan, and he feel so limited when he comes to mainland China, but his chinese friends still think they are very free ^^ everything comes down to what you're accustomed to I see... well, we from the countries of the west only have ourselves to blame since we so bad want to invest in the expanding chinese market. If not every company would move their business here we wouldn't have this problem ^^ btw, I heard that Volvo has sold out to chinese owners =O that's the most swedish of the swedish thing there is haha tricia takanawa is cartoon charachter in Family Guy ^^
  2. That may be the case - Google's motto is to "do only good", which may not translate well into China's "communist" way of thinking. As the one interview I saw about internet freedom in China went, one young lady said "I think people are too free now." Hmm!:stunned: But most other Chinese people felt China should be more free, so at least the loyalists aren't quite as powerful as they used to be.. China's browser - what's it's name again - I recall the dog print beneath the name.. ? Anyhow, no doubt there will be the ever watchful Big Brother if Google does pull out, but then time may come when things open up again. What's your sense of it?? The U.S. needs China to keep buying bonds!:laugh3: So, I don't know if some of it is just political posturing, or the result of the economic slow-down (where countries get protectionistic during economic recessions.)? I don't know either - but it's unlikely anything really drastic will happen - we're too co-dependent on things - even computer chips, and China needs our corn chips:P. Keep us abreast of it, and keep breathing fresh air! Yeah many chinese people really think that they are free now, at least compared with how it used to be. Even though they're not capable of saying anything in the media it's still a lot better than it used to be. But you're correct, the number of people who are unhappy with the govt is growing more and more. The name of the chinese webpage you're looking for is Baidu ^^ Yeah I don't really now either. But I think it's very possible that the U.S is feeling that it's status quo is jepoardised. Don't know really how this google-argument is going to help them with that though  This is asian reporter Tricia Takanawa, back to you, Tom ^^
  3. Is that why this post is now 7 pages long? And Reilly, I see your point now in what you said about not seeing this as some "crusade", you have me convinced.
  4. Uh, this was news to me =O anyway, it's a BIG country. It'll take time to make the changes, and even more time before the message gets out. And then another 2 years before everyone is following it. If I want to eat dog, I can eat dog ^^
  5. I've been readin Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer lately, and he mentions some studies that point towards modern meat products to be part of the cause of girls going into puberty earlier
  6. Only some pictures.. it's really strange. I think that Google threatened to pull out of China even before the attack, beacuse they want internet to be open for everybody etc. But Google leaving China is actually good for the chinese govt, because then it will only be domestic webpages used for searching and they can keep a even better control then they do now. Don't really know what's going on between the U.S and China though ^^ Some say that it's only because the U.S is now feeling threatened by China, because they are growing and getting so rich now. I just don't know what to believe  Yes they eat dog haha, it's considored a delicacy  haven't tried it yet though Yeah, if I'm not wrong, isn't your avatar the singer in the killers? Bob Dylan's great too, Girl from the north country is perhaps one of my favourite song of all time. Haha yeah, your friends clearly doesn't understand music
  7. Välkommen :) jag är inte den enda nya svensken här ser jag haha ;)
  8. Hello Sue, nice to kill you too :) No I don't think so, no electronics were switched on at the time, it was all very weird :S I got home from work, everything's fine. Go to my room, play guitar for like 40 minutes, then when I go back outside - smoke. Guessing it came from some neighbours through the fan in the kitchen. This forum is open in China, yes, but it's very often that I'm not able to see the pictures posted in the forums, that sucks =S Haha :lol:I havn't really been following the debate, there was a lot of talk about it about 2 weeks ago, but since then I think it has cooled down. At least officially. And I will only continue to "free China" for another 3-4 weeks, moving back to Sweden in the beginning of march :)
  9. "Uh... I didn't really care for the answer. Sarcasm aside, I'm okay. I was feeling pretty shit in the morning and today I found a dollar on the street, and since I live in a cardboard box, it was pretty much the highlight of my day. China? I bet they have some bomb Chinese food there What other bands do you like besides Coldplay?" hahah  finding money on the street is always the best haha, haven't done it in years now :( the food is pretty amazing sometimes yeah =D but they have lots of strange things I don't really like, like seaweed, chicken feet, pig snout etc besides Coldplay I listen to Death Cab for cutie, John Mayer, Sufjan Stevens, Mando Diao, The Shins and I recently "discovered" The Killers. I got a very varried taste in music, but those are the bands I tend to return to. What about you? :)
  10. Hey guys, thanks :) hahah ^^ yeah i'm fine, a bit tired though. Yesterday evening I found smoke in my appartment (:stunned:), but since there was no fire at all I assumed it must come from my neighbours or something. Told my boss about it and he got more worried about it then I was and sent me off to spend the night at a hotel just to be sure (I'm working in China atm so it's a bit tricky sometimes)....heh, perhaps not small-talk, but you asked :D what about you? :)
  11. okay mc_squared, your opinions are your own, not gonna argue anything on that point, but your arguments? please Personally I don't see a problem about posting this. I think he has some point when he says that people need to know what's going on. And just because Reilly reads the paper every now and then doesn't mean everyone does. Actually, hasn't there been plenty of people commenting on this post, seeing this story for the first time? This IS the News & Sport forum, and this is news.
  12. "In Germany, authorities levied a 'virginity tax' on a teenage Romanian girl who sold her virginity through a German website, pointing out that it was a case of selling sex for money, which is taxable." funny that even the governments makes profit in this kind of things^^
  13. yeah well, I thought I'd start with something Coldplay, just for the look of it, but not something as cheesy as "come up to meet you" or something like that ^^
  14. Coldplay - Postcards from far away on guitar pretty tricky as it's originally played on piano, but it's amazing
  15. Hard to know for me, haha intrigued though, what made you not to skim through mine?
  16. ...is this something positive? thanks to the lot of you :)
  17. Why hello there, first hour as a member so I thought I'd just give a quick introduction. Don't know if it's necessary to say OH I LOVE THEM SO MUCH or brag about how many songs I know by heart (very few) or how many I can play on my guitar (actually a bit more), I adore the band. Like you all do, I assume, that's why we're all here. I went to see them live in Stockholm 2009, and I can honestly say that concert was one of the best evenings of my life. The show, the lights, the songs, the crowd, the butterflies, the band...it was amazing. Truly amazing. They were my favourites before the concert, and if possible, they are now even more. Discovered this page a couple of monhts ago while looking for some rumours of a 5th studio album, and have read a few posts every once in a while since then. So I just thought it was about time I stopped being an anonymous stalker and started to be able to participate in the conversations. And also, I think it's amazing, coming to this online forum and finding such a united group of fans. I don't think I will take myself the time to truly become "one in the family" here, but I think it's really cool that you, we maybe I have to say, actually seem like that. A big family (though a very creepy one with risk of the occasional incest) See you on the forum :)
  18. what AM I thinking right now....?
  19. Had a hell of a time finding a picture of the town I live in (Skellefteå, Sweden), so I'll post a picture of my house during christmas time instead heh If the picture doesn't work, check out this link instead :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/42566645@N05/4234192326/in/set-72157622548512768/ Though I'm currently living in China, and here it looks like this Oh, first post by btw, hello you all =D
