  1. agreed ... as you probably know, we're having the same problem over here ... simon cowell brought his particular brand of misery to our teles and now was have a serious of American Idols (we always have to throw "America" into everything :) ) attacking the charts. Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken should go bye-bye.
  2. True dat. We need a little more con-tro-versy.
  3. Did you say crying?!?!? :bigcry: "bigcry: Thanks, Chaz :bigcry:

  6. And then the road ceased to exist.
  7. Philosophy is a really diverse field. There are philosophers entangled into every facets of academia. This is part of the elgacy of Philosophy. Long ago studies were all part of Philosophy: Math, otehr sciences, et al were all considered just subsects of philosophy. It's the legacy Aristotle gave us. Obviously that hasn't maintained itself through time, but philosophers still dive into all aspects of life. It's necessary, in order to understand the human condition, to be cognizant of the conditions of humans. Or something like that.
  8. I was big into Physics in high school but elected to study Philosophy and Politcal Science in college ... QM is very philosophical, so that might explain some of my interest, but I think anything relating to a unified theory would spark my interest just based on my Physics interest. It is, after all, awfully important.

We sing different Christmas songs where I'm from. You might expect Jingle Bells or Deck the Halls, but we don't sing those things around here. Our Christmas songs are written by Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon and Pete Townshend. Most of them aren't very cheery at all, though all of them a provocative.
  10. Yeah ... I mean, how many times can you see Sam cry?
  11. please stop with the superfulous spacing. it makes it difficult on people who are interested in following the thread in an efficient manner.
  12. The albums in the "also heard" section are in order from favorite to least favorite, though I'm not an benile about keeping that section in order. The Howie Day album is near the bottom, just above what I'd easily consider the worst album I've heard this year. Before I go on, let me preface this by saying I don't go uot of my way to listen to bad albums. If it's music I know I probably won't like, then I avoid it. This is why an acclaimed album like Lil' Kim's La Bella Mafia isn't on the list. I just can't justify the time, though I do want a complete a list as possible. This is the main weakness of my list, but realize that even to be listed means on one level I am/was interested in it (even if that level is superficial, as it was with Da Band). With that said, if you liked the Howie Day album either stop reading now or take the below for what it's worth (meaning: not much). I thought Howie Day's album was easily the second worst album I heard this year. His style is likeable and he's not going to do many songs which are obviously bad. My problem with his album was that it was completely devoid of anything of substance or imaginative. The songs are formulaically poppy and sweet and seem to come out of a "How to" book on mainstream, inconic pop songwriting. And it's easy to see why ths album would appeal to people on that basis: They just like that style of music. The problem I have with that justification is that there are many people who are or have done that kind of music in an inspired way. Howie Day is neither inspired nor inpsiring. The album just rolls off of you in a way that, after ti's over, you kind of wish you had allocated your money elsewhere. Is it bad? No, but it's bland. If you don't look at it critically then you'll find it passable and you might even find or consttruct seom virtue in it. But I don't think it can stand on its own.
  13. so ... David Gary ... he's super cool, eh? I didn't like "A New Day at Midnight" as much as it's predecssor, but it was still worth the listen. When is he releasing something new? (Richard is avoiding a painful topic)
  14. Hey, that's a White Stripes song!

  23. Really? They were all the rage this summer. Snopp Dogg was everywhere, and it's his own little sub-langauge. Well, it's not really his. it's an urban thing. I remember one night being at a friend's house, drunk and stoned, playing XBox and speaking like taht the whole night. By the end of the night everybody was rather pissed at me. But when you see Fran Drescher speaking like that on an Old Navy commercial you know the whole dialect has jumped the shark. I imagine Snoop is doing an about-face after seeing that crap: "I say, that is quite improper."
