I don't agree with banning the person, nor do my main problems with Sternly rest solely in the caps. Well you can't change people. Just because you have a problem with her CAPS, doesn't mean she is gonna change that just because you don't like.... I mean if you have a problem with her caps, that's your problem, not mine or hers....main point, you can't change people & even if they did, that wouldn't be right, 'cause they are not being themselves....got it? ;) :D :) This is a gross over-simplification of the issue. Just because Carla does something doesn't justify it in-and-of-itself. That's what your argument as articulated above comes down to. The justification for that behavior must be examined against the cost of the effect. In this case, though the cost of the effect is a minor adverse reaction to a small portion of the board's population, there is no justification for the behavior. This isn't about "changing" people. Caps lock isn't an inate personal characteristic.

  5. I have a bunch of 80s mp3s ehre at work that I throw on about once every two weeks, but I get the feeling that I'm forgetting a bunch of cool songs. So this seems like a good thread to help me remember. What is/are your favo(u)rite eighties song(s)?

I've brought it up two different times to Carla. She has actually been pretty rude about it. I'm sure the rudeness is just a product of her role-playing and nothing intentional, but since I've been on the board people seem to have had issues. In the end, I don't think Carla's preferences are anything but unfortunate - nothing anybody should get so (consistently) upset about.

The thing about the caps is that it carries with it a definite connotation, one that has been explained to Carla yet she continues to use them. If only a minority of people kind it off-putting, does that justify her using them? Maybe it does, but it's the willful contempt she shows in her persistence that's the most aggrevating part. But secondly, the caps lock and the purposely broken English combined with the changing locations and excessive exclamation points tell me that this is probably just a regular who uses Sternly as their second personality. I actually am somewhat embarassed to say that I have gotten aggrevated before. I should have been more easy-going. But I do think it would be better if the Sternly demeanor were turned down a little. Just my opinion.

I just saw the Coors Light commercial that's serving as a follow-up to the "Wingman" commerical. The "Wingman" commercial features a man playing a song on guitar (acoustic) as a tirbute to the "Wingman," the guy who occupies the annoying girl so his friend can get with the "asthetically pleasing" one. Anyways, I liked the song in the first commercial. Thought it was cute and funny. Now they have follow-up commercial. Rather than just letting the good commercial stand on it's own, they brought the guy back. But if that wasn't bad enough, the song he sings is call "Wingdog," about how you can use a cute dog as an in with women. OK, I just wrote too much about this ... I'm just surprised. I need to not take these beer commericals so seriously.
