actually, Route 66 doesn't exist anymore as a highway; but you can approximate it by using other highways; perhaps the same path exisits but under different highway numbers...but even that may not be the case. and yep, in the U.S. most people you meet in the street might say 'hi' or something to that effect, some might even give you a smile. But it's not meant in any sincerity or in any personal way. I've read of many tales for new immigrants coming to U.S. who are shell-shocked that everyone they meet in public says hi or good day; even the store clerk would say 'have a good day' (even though it might be 10pm! lol). Point is, in some countries, you don't just wish people good days or stuff like that unless you know them and you mean it. Perhaps that's the case in the yUK. It surely is the case in India...it doesn't mean you're less friendly to others or that you're unsocial. There's just a little bit different quality to life that you pursue....thus when i was new here, and everyone in school would say "what's up!?" when they would meet me, I frankly had nothing to say back to them for like a few months! :stunned: :lol:

hmmm surprising... :stunned: i know meanings of both those. and i agree with what SI said for both. for first one... basically: be original; have your own point of view toward something. Don't parrot out what a movie critic said about a certain movie, do your own analysis... deck is stacked against you... that comes from playing cards: if you have all the good cards with you, then you have the 'deck of cards' so to speak and your opponent has it stacked against his hand. thus, in the figure of speech, it means, a certain situation is such that you would have a pretty tough going.

i take it that's for me... no, i think it's my computer...ever since i unwittingly downloaded some stupid pop-up blocker or something (which actually spits out ads everytime i load a page), the yahoo launchcast doesn't seem to work...many times it just doesn't connect (instead goes to some other page called 'internet-optimizer' :rolleyes: ) and when it does connect, the player doesn't play and says we're undergoing some technical problems and please try to listen again at a later time. (of course i'm paraphrasing that...) :(
