Thanks :nice: I am officially enrolled in their MD/PhD program in oncological research (cancer research). It's the most interesting field for me, so I am confident that it will work out! I'll be able to write while I'm there (scientific papers), and while it's not fiction, it will keep my skills sharp for later in life.

Pitchfork is not pretentious. They're responsible for introducing a ton of stuff to me that I probably wouldn't have heard otherwise. Yeah, they're a little off-the-beaten-path, but I think they're pretty respectable. Like them or not, they're responsible for really kickass reviews and they're one of the biggest forces in professional criticism today. LOL

:snobby: I'm going to both in Missouri :wacky: And KC and STL are on opposite sides of the state. The KC one serves the majority of the Midwest, so I think it's fair. And the St. Louis one is justified because it's a big metro area with lots of fans. But I'm biased. :escaping:

Hello everyone. I'm bumping this because I just learned what to do! It looks like I'm going to Washington University in St. Louis, to start class on June 25th. They offered me a salary and everything! So, thank you guys for your advice. I'll also be working for a small publishing group on the weekends, editing fictional works and helping beginning writers. I think it's a great fit. Thanks so much for your advice. I don't think I would have gone for the latter if it wasn't for you guys. I feel truly humbled.

Well, yeah, but who says a depressing story can't be uplifting? It's depressing obviously because the guy is largely rejected, but he rejects that rejection and does his calling anyway. He thinks it's worth it. And just the way he was talking to me indicates that despite everything he's still optimistic: About himself, his surroundings, and his spirituality (something I can't even say I'm happy with myself...and I'm a lot less complicated).
