You've never been to a concert have you? It's a sort of 'courtesy' bands extend to the audience. They 'finish' and then to show their appreciation they come back on. In the case of Coldplay, the encore is predetermined, but some bands who really do like the audience will play longer and maybe even do 2 encores to give back to their audience.

Wait what? Paradise studio is practically made only of backing tracks. This for once had only minor strings and some synth, which Jonny was playing. That isn't too much if you ask me :)
