Officially back from Manchester, TN and my verdict on Radiohead at Bonnaroo: :thumbsdown: Three main reasons: 1) The band was uncharacteristically making a lot of mistakes. The most notable example is Feral where someone was horribly off pitch for the first half of the song. 2) You had much of the crowd expecting another Bonnaroo 2006 so they couldn't help but be disappointed. 2) Thom's voice was completely shot by the 1st encore. Also sounded drunk on a lot of songs.

Will anyone else be at Bonnaroo? PM me if you are. :hippy:

Am I the only one who sees the irony in this statement?

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is one of the most overrated albums in recent memory. The insane production masks the fact that 1) the album is way too long, making it an arduous task to listen to the album in one sitting; 2) most of the songs aren't very good - few killer singles and everything else is average; 3) Kanye's flow + songwriting is getting worse and worse. This record embodies the old saying, "all style, no substance." Don't get me wrong, MBDTF isn't a bad album per se but it is an incredibly flawed album and did not deserve the overblown praise it got when it was first released. It was almost as if the critics were afraid to really say what they really thought about the album - groupthink anyone? Indeed, how many reviews actually talked about the music instead of going on and on about Kanye's personal life? It's thus unsurprising to see some of the critics start to reevaluate whether or not the album is the masterpiece they were making it out to be. I'll take Madvillainy over MBDTF any day. Actually, I'll even take The College Dropout or Late Registration over MBDTF.

Why on earth would you be ashamed to confess you listen to pop? That's really the wrong mentality to take.

Are you looking for pop albums or singles? The reason I ask is the past 20 years or so have been dominated by singles. Of course, pop has always been defined by singles but more so recently due to the availability of the internet and rise of MP3s. Consequently, you have less cohesive pop albums as the the album format in pop has become something for artists to put their hit singles and then a bunch of filler. Moreover, it's become difficult to differentiate between genres because there's so much! Thus, we arrive at the fundamental question that so many people have struggled with: what is pop? By "pop music," do you mean indie pop? Electropop? Noise pop? Baroque pop? Dream pop? The list goes on and on...

Is an actual album confirmed though? Could be an EP or even a single right? Sounds really pretty though :)

They messed up both nights. More egregious yesterday.

This occurred towards Jonny's side: a guy with a blue hat just kept pushing and pushing towards the front of the stage. Luckily, the people called for security and the guy had to move out. We were all chanting something like "kick him out" to get the security guy's attention :laugh3: I have mixed feelings about Caribou: 1) The sound was just being swallowed whole by the arena; not ideal act for Prudential Center 2) There was a very small crowd for Caribou's set, a large reason having to do with the technical difficulties with tickets. 3) Of the people who were there, not many really knew Caribou (except for the song Odessa :P). Really killed the vibe. I mean I really enjoyed Caribou at Webster Hall but I didn't really enjoy the set yesterday. Much improved tonight however. Quick thoughts before bed: 1) Radiohead messed up Idioteque. Again. It was great seeing Phil cross his fingers before playing the song but alas. 2) I normally hate people shouting during quiet parts of songs but I really laughed when a guy shouted "Let's go Devils!" during The Daily Mail. :laugh3: 3) Ed is adding some really bizarre dance moves to his repertoire. Guess it's better than just standing and doing nothing but still. 4) A bit disappointing to see so few changes with the setlists. Granted, we got Kid A, Pyramid Song, How to Disappear Completely, Go to Sleep and Paranoid Android tonight but other songs were the same. Plus virtually the same order from Night 1. 5) Didn't really like Identikit from video footage on Youtube. After seeing Identikit live, I still don't like it. Nothing really happens after the middle section of the song. Vocals still sound messy.

They first let in people with reserved seats (including those with WASTE seat tickets) before letting in General Admission people. Once they opened the doors for GA, both Ticketmaster + Waste lines were entering at the same time through two separate, adjacent doors - Ticketmaster entered through the left, WASTE through the right. People who bought tickets off WASTE were not let in earlier per se, but I think they were able to get to the floor faster because they already had tickets in hand and they're a lot easier to scan. I heard through the grapevine that there were issues with the scanning machines, leading to a holdup with the lines. That's why there were so many empty seats when Radiohead took the stage - people were still trying to get in! I think the arena filled up by around song 6 though... Btw, I sincerely hope no one here was the guy wearing the blue hat yesterday. Unbelievably inconsiderate. :angry:

The Tallest Man on Earth? Fantastic record, although I don't think it's quite as good as The Wild Hunt or Shallow Grave. This is only my initial reaction (it was sitting on my desktop and I just got around to it) so the record might grow on me more. If you liked previous output from The Tallest Man on Earth, I don't see why you won't enjoy this album. Highlights: 1904, On Every Page, There's No Leaving Now
