  1. This overlong ending showcases just how much Peter Jackson is committed to the original LOTR as presented / written by the author JRR Tolkien. I'm sure he (Jackson) was aware that most audiences would find the ROTK ending too long (20 minutes to wind down after the climax) but I think he wanted to introduce the spirit of the book to the cinematic audiences. As a fan of the book (and the movies), I personally found the 20 minutes a big treat even though it did drag pacing of the movie. However I can't quite decide whether the acting felt 'subpar' (as compared to the rest of the movie) due to the actors themselves or the director not being able to capture / mould the film into a more wieldy form emotionally. Coz objectively speaking (after taking a step back from the film), I think many of the acting performances are better than many other films, and yet when I watch the film I have difficulty connecting / absorbing its full impact. The film may be too long for this; also Peter Jackson's relentless pressing on and piling on the emotions doesn't help either. Then again, he had no choice... How else to keep the audiences' rooted attention for 3 hours? :) It is an amazing feat by itself that the movie (huge as it is) managed to keep afloat and preserve its original spirit & gravity. Hats off to all concerned  This, as well as the fact (as pointed on top) that Jackson was willing to sacrifice pacing for faithfulness to Tolkien's original LOTR vision and spirit (as opposed to his own- he is fully capable of coming up with his own vision that is cinematically powerful) is why I think he (Jackson) is an amazing director and person. Though I do suppose the latter (sacrificing the pacing) will legitimately throw a question as to his oscar claim. Well, Finding Nemo was another quite good movie that might have made the list (I have to admit I haven't seen quite enough movies this year to make a qualified judgement). The characters (and animations) were real enough and they connected, though they weren't on the grand scale or dealt with huge affairs e.g. war, death etc. :D As usual, this is not the overwhelming criteria for me when I rate films... It used to be, but then I realised only certain types of films would only ever get good ratings if evaluated this way :P Cheers y'all. Happy New Year! Have a good 2004...
  2. Same thing here, just heartbreaking. :D And I agree with the comments made about the song being 'too rough' though I do think that it was entirely intentional, and that the band probably had a tough time making that decision (it's so not them in a way). But I guess they thought it was time to come out of their comfort coccoon and open up the world's eyes a bit. Unforch, that's the reason I least like that song, good as it is :/ I guess the last bit "and give me love over.." is where they compensate and give it a bit of balance and CP feel to this very unCPish song. I dig CP coz they give me some respite and comfort from the world. Call it escapism :P
  3. LOTR: ROTK! Only one word... OSCARS! Boy am I gonna murder the Academy if they f*ck up this time (sorry for the strong language but they'll really hit themselves in the head if they miss this one... :D ) Peter Jackson at least for the golden statuette
  4. Love to buy them but no $$$$$$$$$ They're lovely and brilliant though. Enuff said!
  5. Love your list. Though I did think Pirates might have deserved to get on the list (lightweight fare that it is...) I did think that it was well made. Doesn't Gollum care for things that don't always pull the biggest emotional punch? Must be the precious whispering into your ear always, "I'm gonna weigh you down, I will weigh you down... Down, down, into the neverending darkness we gooo..." :P Nothing personal, just a thought (for myself, I prefer darker, emotionally heavy movies too like you). But neways, that's just my opinion :)
  6. Relaxing. That'd be my word to describe it. But the word that comes to mind is:- THANKYOU... For all the people who loved the music and supported the album (fans & critics alike) To the world for still having people like us and And most of all to Coldplay for coming up with this helluva brilliant (and relaxing album). Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)
  7. Try "amazing stupidity"... that's by far the most amazing thing I've ever heard. :D
  8. 1. I am not sure how true the 'attack' was 2. Even if it were true, there could very well have been exaggerations by the media (Everyone loves a good story) 3. Finally, if he really did what was reported that he did, I think he was either a) provoked OR b) very stressed out that day to begin with. In short, I'm sure he had good reason to be mad (though hitting people is never a good thing). So in answer to your question... Funnily enough I don't find it so hard to believe (though he'd never do it for no reason / just for fun). And he is fully capable of expressing his rage (hitherto just verbally, until now). Lastly if he did do it, I'm not too sure that he'd feel sorry for doing it (though he probably wouldn't be proud of it either). Any thoughts?
  9. This thread is just cracking me upp!!! All of us are so cool with it... That's why I like us fans, always looking at the other side. Go us! :D Well, I'm certainly NOT depressed. Though am I the only one to see a pattern here??? 1. Gwyn gets with Chris. 2. Gwyn gets pregnant. 3. Gwyn gets married to Chris. 4. Gwyn gets Chris to punch photogs... Hahaha.... This is just getting too much  Anyone else see the connection??? 5. Gwyn gets... (Chris' gonna be in real trouble this time) Oooh... I just can't stop laughing. Someone help me here. :D Though I don't think Gwyn's evil or anything. Just that Chris has finally found something he cares enough about (Betcha he'll buy his gun and start his war all for Gwyn...) Now ain't that sweet that he actually can actually have a dark side for once? And that Gwn has helped him develop as a person? Though personally I don't think punching photographers was a good idea... Just hope he doesn't get into too much trouble for it. :P
  10. *Congrats* to the couple. Cheers all round, hurrah!
  11. Hahaha..... Wayyyy too funnaayyy!!! Thanks a lot mimixx for the post, absolutely enlightening. I just can't wipe the smirk and the grin off my face!!! Muahahaha... I'm so happy. You made my day! :) :D
  12. Oh gosh! I believe I forgot... Yep, looks like I forgot to... Oops :stunned: Well, having a baby couldn't have hurt the decision to stay put. So my answer would be yes, Chris being the lovely guy that he is... Now that would bring us to [glow=blue:bd0a228ab3]3 yes [/glow:bd0a228ab3]and [glow=red:bd0a228ab3]8 no [/glow:bd0a228ab3]then.
  13. Well, what do you think? And either way, will it affect the music for better / worse? I personally don't believe it will affect them in any way... though we might just start seeing variations on popular children's songs :P Not! Though we'll never know :D
  14. Life :)   :embarrased:  :o ;) :D :P  :( :smug: :wink3:  :/ :stunned: :idea2: :sneaky:  :dozey:  :snore:
