[2016-08-20] Rose Bowl, LOS ANGELES, CA
Oh interesting, I didn't know that. Indeed, the timing is off sometimes, seems the person controlling the subtitles wasn't too familiar with Coldplay's music :)

Haha, the stream was subtitled with the song lyrics?! I'm only at The Scientist and I'm already finding so many lines I never heard correctly

This is interesting.
It's on YouTube here, though I have better-sounding version from a different broadcast on my hard drive. I could upload it somewhere if you or anyone else is interested.

Someone streamed a large part of the concert on Periscope (Birds → end of show), so I'll just drop the link for reference and for those interested: https://www.periscope.tv/w/1BdxYVAXMWlKX They also streamed the beginning of the show: https://www.periscope.tv/w/1vOxwpqPwDbKB and (part of) the opening acts: https://www.periscope.tv/w/1LyGBbAZYmjGN https://www.periscope.tv/w/1eaKbLvyMnZJX

I really like that version as well. Shame it was never released outside of the TV broadcasts.

I'm very curious to hear any official word on the matter. It might be a sensitive subject though, as I suspect they're not proud of it. He did. It was very apparent during the live broadcast (at least to those who already knew about it) and the song was cut from the video on demand.

To my knowledge, every performance of Clocks since the start of the tour (31 March) has been lip synced, with one exception: the concert at Kensington Palace, which was not a regular show. If you're convinced otherwise, you can show us some examples if you want to. Here's a video of the exception, which makes the difference between live and lip sync very clear:

And then in Hamburg Up&Up was sung live again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y57I-WHpml8 Mobile Link: https://youtu.be/y57I-WHpml8 Very interesting.

I do know the difference, thanks. You, too, enjoy the show!

Well, there's more to it than just that part. When listening to the Periscope I first recognized the autotune on the voice, so I thought they might've been using live vocals transformed by an autotuner. The Red Room performance also has the autotune which I noted before. Then I started recognizing particularities, especially in the bridge – not just "see each sunrise as a gift," but all of this: and you can say what is, or fight for it close your mind or take a risk you can say it’s mine and clench your fist or see each sunrise as a gift This gave me strong suspicions that it wasn't live. And then the way he sang "see each sunrise as a gift," was just what convinced me, since I'd only ever heard him sing it that way at the Red Room performance. If you don't hear it immediately, keep listening carefully to both performances (or compare it to Amsterdam on the 24th, or Berlin on the 29th instead) and it should become clear.

That didn't last long. Business as usual at tonight's show in Berlin.

Lead vocals on Up&Up are live today, apparently. Backing vocals are tracked as always.

Great video, thanks! Pretty cool that they ended with the organ as in the studio recording, I don't think they ever played it live that way before. Also funny that Chris made the same lyrical mistake as last time, four years ago, singing "you came along and you cut me loose" instead of "sick to the stomach".

This is interesting.
Yes. I just checked and we can add yesterday (24th) to the list. Maybe I should, yeah… The way I view the band is changing a lot because of this.

https://www.periscope.tv/w/1ZkKzvqPnpyKv About 4 minutes in. Edit: video jumps around a lot for me. I think this is a better one: https://www.periscope.tv/w/1yNGaRdoVWXJj

And with drums! Would've expected an acoustic version on the C stage if they played it at all, but this is much better

That audience song request-thing
Is Guy known to have such a list? I'd be inclined to trust his taste actually, but I think he doesn't have a lot of say in terms of the setlist. Remember he said he likes Daylight in Thalia's interview? And yet we don't hear that song very often.

It gets more interesting. Yesterday I was watching a live Periscope of the show in Amsterdam (23 June) and the vocals on Up&Up sounded… familiar. Compare this (second video on the page): http://www.nova969.com.au/novas-red-room-global-tours/coldplay-live-videos#2 to this: It's especially clear in the bridge (you can say what is … see each sunrise as a gift). Sigh. It's not getting any better, is it?

According to the article, tonight's show will be broadcast tomorrow, not tomorrow's show.

Always In My Head! Nice to see it back.

Another playback caught?
I've been suspicious of A Sky Full of Stars too. If you check out some of the performances it is pretty clear that the last vocal lines of the song (Such a heavenly view / yeah, yeah, yeah, ooh) are identical. On today's high quality radio broadcast of the Zurich concert, there are instances during Every Teardrop and Viva where you can hear two Chris's at once, so I think a similar technique of partly live vocals is going on there. In your second example, I think it's just an audience member saying something, or at least that's all I can hear.

Nice auto-tune on Up&Up.

Still, better to have a bit of variation than no variation at all, like in 2012 when the setlist was always exactly the same.

The piano is live, the vocals aren't.

Chris sounds perfect during Clocks. Perfect every time.
