  1. I use the internal sounds from my mp9000 and Piano2 "Studio Grand" is the one to go with! that's the Coldplay one ;) you can also use MIDI on the mp9000 to use it as a master keyboard to play external sounds like vst's and sound modules. I don't think it's going to sound as good as the real deal if you sample the instrument because you can't edit the internal effects and settings afterwards. I just suggest you buy a Kawai mp9000 if you want the sound ;)
  2. The Kawai ex Pro sample library is a good alternative if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a Kawai mp9000, I used that before I bought a mp9000
  3. That's the keyboards Jonny and Chris played on Viva tour right? :) I think they triggered some tackpiano samples from a muse receptor with Kontakt implemented ;)
  4. image upload no size limit imagehosting
  5. Chris has used: Takamine (Parachutes era) Martin 000-15E cutaway (AROBTTH era) Gibson SJ-200 (X&Y era) Martin D28, Gibson Blues King (Viva era) Martin D15M (MX era)
  6. Really good work I have to say! It sounds so close that if I was closing my eyes I would probably thought it was Jonny Buckland standing there and play it. If we put on some Metal-tack Piano it would sound like the record it self ;) You nailed it man! It would be cool to see some of your own stuff with those wonderful guitar tones ;) and it comes from a guy who is a total Eric Johnson freak :) /Patrik
  7. This is a short quick tutorial by request, showing the way Chris Martin use to play the song live. Mobile Link: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1xcuiv_coldplay-the-scientist-live-tutorial_music
  8. The point with iLok is that no one can copy the software, you need the iLok connected in your usb to make the software work, Pro Toos is a program that requires iLok for example
  9. There is youtube videos that explains how you use a sampler, if it's in Logic it's called EXS24 for example but you can use Kontakt or the sampler in Reason as well. I just use my ears until it sounds the way I want.
  10. @Lost Boy Not that much, I mostly play by ear. Sometimes I use sheet music in the begining just to learn the song and after that I drop the paperwork ;)
  11. Coldplay's Kawai mp9000 was never sampled, because when it's a digital instrument they can hook it up via midi cable. Midi out from Yamaha GT20 to midi in on mp9000 and then audio out from mp9000 to the soundsystem. Sample it would probably never sound as god as the real deal, but they made a rack version or sound module of the mp9000 so it's exactly the same but without keys and it's much easier to carry around as well. Check this out to! it's the new mp9000 that they use for the Ghost Stories tour ;) http://kenrichsounds.com/instruments/custom.html
  12. I hope that everyone don't forget to create their own music and find their own unique sound to ;)
  13. You can connect almost every instrument that has midi input and output jacks. I connected my Yamaha CP300 midi out to my Kawai MP9000 midi in and then audio out from MP9000 to the interface/soundsystem and then I started to play the Yamaha and it triggered the sound from the MP9000 :) thats the way Coldplay does it ;-)
  14. In the studio, they use acoustic uprights, but live he plays a digital yamaha upright with midi that triggers the sound from the mp9000 that they have backstage. They have used it since they started out, check out when they play trouble live 2000, there you can actually se Chris play on the keyboard itself :) http://www.avnetwork.com/video.aspx?vid=31270441001
  15. I also noticed that they use this keyboard for the Ghost Stories tour so Jonny can play on it but Ken Rich did a cutdown on it from 88 keys to 44 or 49 :)
  16. I finally found Chris Martin's piano sound! I just bought myself a Kawai mp9000 stage piano and worked a few hours to find the Chris's paino sound on it ;-) If you have one the settings are (I believe): Patch: PIANO 2 (Studio Grand) EFX: Off Tone Modify: Cutoff +7,
  17. To me it looks like a Yamaha U model with a disklavier system installed which means that they can still send midi signals to the backstage rack where they have their Kawai Mp9000 rack module that produces their trademark piano sound :-)
  18. The rack module you are talking about is a custom made rack that Dave Nally made of a keyboard "Kawai Mp9000" that was the one Chris used under the Parachutes era. Chris loved that piano sound so much, so they used the Yamaha GT-20 (midi out) to trigger the sound from Mp9000 (midi in). They probably made the custom rack to travel more lightweight because the keyboard is really heavy. On the rack you can see in the video with Coldplay's technician, you can actually see that it's marked as Mp9000 rac. If you want the sound just buy a used Kawai Mp9000, you can't buy them new since they are discontinued. Hope this helps! /Patrik
  19. I came up with these sounds in CS-80, and it sounds like some of the ones that Coldplay used on the X&Y record. Mobile Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWgGb82uxV8
  20. Most of the Kawai mp digital pianos are discontinued, but I guess you can find them second hand and not to expensive :)
  21. I know that some parts are playback for example on Viva La Vida you can hear two Chris Martin on the chorus so I think they use to have an earpice monitor with the beat on those kind of songs. But Chris, Jonny, Will and Guy are always playing their instruments live. It is easy to find out though, just audiorip the sound from some concerts and check the bpm, if the bpm always is the same it is probably a clicktrack or beat they play with. But everything they can play live at the same time the play live. They use to have another member who plays synthparts and strings in the background i think. Chris piano is a discontinued Yamaha GT20 (grantouch) its all digital but it has real hammer action but no strings. The piano is connected via MIDI or Line to a synthrack where they have two Korg Triton Racks for the Fix You organs, Kawai Mp9000 keyboard in rack format for chris piano sound and some muse receptors with NI Kontact installed for strings and other sounds. The funny thing is the piano sound because its actually not sampled, he plays the Kawai Mp9000 but it is kontrolled by the Yamaha GT20 so the Yamaha is kind of a MIDI kontroller for the Kawai. They stripped the Kawai and inserted the electronics into a rack enclosure so it is the actuall the instrument in a rack (rack modul). I guess that Chris liked the look of the Yamaha a lot more but the sound of the Kawai.
  22. I would like to use 2 amps like Eric Johnson, He uses like 2 fender twinreverb amps in stereo with a TC Electronics stereo chourus for the Clean sound. It sounds great if you mic them togheter ;)
  23. I know a guy in my hometown who is a complete genious when it comes to vintagesynths, he finds everything and he rebuild a lot of stuff aswell. He could probably help me to find a Kawai Mp9000 keyboard and transfer it to a rack modul. You would probably need the keyboard and a empty rack enclosure, just take the electronics, inputs, pots and display and mount it into the rack i guess. Than you can play Chris's live sound on any digital piano. I tried the Yamaha NU1 at Yamaha piano center in Stockholm, "fantastic" piano, thats all I ask for. I loved the key and hammer action of it and the design, it almost looks like the GT20 but i guess the NU1 have improved and better mechanics and electronics. The whole Avant Grand Series is probably an improvement over the Gran Touch Series.
  24. I think I cracked the code check this out: http://bimg1.mlstatic.com/vendo-piano-kawai-mp-9000_MLB-F-2798164486_062012.jpg Look at the screen setting and compare it to Chris's rack, it is the same sound! So buy a Kawai Mp9000 and you will get the sound if you modify it a little bit ;) We finally reached the goal :) Btw does anyone know if you kan play a piano trough another piano for example: Kawai OUT to Yamaha IN and Yamaha OUT to Speaker system? I have to say that this concert grand sounds a little bit outdated but it sounds great and thats what I love about it ;) Cheers! Patrik
