A Head Full of Dreams Birds Amazing Day Up&Up After this elimination finishes, would everyone want to revive the unreleased songs elimination or go into the best of the eras elimination? I vote for Amazing Day. Absolutely insane that it's made it this far.

Ha ha, I never said it was the best Coldplay album closer. That title clearly goes to Amsterdam. ;) But yeah, I like it better than UWTB (which is great but a bit anticlimactic), and O (which is beautiful and almost as good).

Fun 6 Adventure of a Lifetime: 5 Up&Up 2 Amazing Day 1 Fun is finally eliminated. Good riddance! :P A Head Full of Dreams Birds Adventure of a Lifetime Amazing Day Up&Up Absolutely insane that people are voting for AOAL and especially Up&Up!! AOAL is one of the strongest songs here, with a catchy chorus and great guitar riff! But it's not that great either. Up&Up, on the other hand, is colossal. It's like Coldplay's Champagne Supernova. The guitar solos (the only ones on the album mind!!) are amazing, and the chorus is great. Sure, it's overproduced (but what song here isn't), and it's way better live, but who cares? The greatest album closer of Newplay, and the best song on AHFOD by a mile. ;) Amazing Day, on the other hand, sounds like a Saturday Night Live parody of Coldplay. Generic to the point of being unbearable.

Everglow 6 Fun 5 Up&Up 2 Amazing Day 1 Adventure of a Lifetime: 1 Everglow is eliminated. A Head Full of Dreams Birds Adventure of a Lifetime Fun Amazing Day Up&Up Good riddance to Everglow...that song is so generic and sickly sweet that it probably gave me me diabetes. :P And as people have said, Chris's vocals are like he sang with a sore throat. In fact it's present all over the album, and it seems that on many songs they try to hide it under backing vocals. Sad, considering that Chris used to have a very lovely and delicate falsetto. But Fun is way worse than Everglow!! Fun goes for Paradise but has all emotion and energy sucked out of it. And Tove Lo adds absolutely nothing to the track. So let's get this out as quick as we can, and as always, keep up the banter, because THIS IS WAR!!!! ;)

Kaleidoscope 6 Fun 2 Up&Up 1 Everglow 1 Amazing Day 1 Kaleidoscope is eliminated. Though the song itself is pretty much a poor man's Revolution 9. ;) I vote for Fun.

Probably needed slightly more people to defend itself, eh? ;) A Head Full of Dreams Birds Everglow Adventure of a Lifetime Fun Kaleidoscope Amazing Day Up&Up Glad to see the banter return!! I think that the worst thing about Army of One, other than the terrible production, is the fact that it sounds very generic, and it's a bit too poppy for my tastes. For the same reasons I vote this round for Fun. Fun also has some cringe-worthy lyrics. I wish Coldplay had re-recorded the song they gave to Natalie Imbruglia. :( Had they done so, it would've been by far the best song on the album.

Colour Spectrum 7 Hymn for the Weekend 6 Army of One 2 Colour Spectrum is eliminated. A Head Full of Dreams Birds Hymn for the Weekend Everglow Adventure of a Lifetime Fun Kaleidoscope Army of One Amazing Day Up&Up Colour Spectrum might be one minute of nothing, but it's a relief after listening to the awful run of Army of One-X Marks the Spot-Amazing Day. ;) Once again I vote for Hymn for the Weekend.

Btw regarding Colour Spectrum, it's a bit different from the short instrumentals on MX in that it doesn't segue directly into a song proper, and that it doesn't feel like an intro to Up&Up, and more like a song in its own right. That's why I included it separately. :) It isn't gonna last very long anyway. ;)

I considered adding that great song, but as it's still unreleased, it will have to wait until we revive the unreleased songs elimination. :) Ha ha, at everyone's insistence, I included Miracles to the GS elimination. But I agree, it fits more with this era than Ghost Stories. It's also a lot better than most songs on AHFOD. ;)

So now it is time to begin the AHFOD elimination!! While some call it another strong effort from the boys, others call it by far the worst thing to ever be released with the Coldplay label. So now let us determine to best song on this album!! Y'know what, I was thinking, maybe the "sore throat effect" of Chris's vocals is intentional, to try and capture the emotion that the song's lyrics (which aren't great but at least get their point across) convey. But in that case they should've stripped away all of the layers of production, leaving only Chris and his piano.

First impressions: Sounds like a GS outtake. I mean, seriously. Funny juxtaposition with AOAL, a dirge followed by an upbeat pop song. The song tries so hard to capture the emotional moments of previous Coldplay albums (ex: We Never Change, Amsterdam, A Message, Reign of Love, Up in Flames, Oceans) but lacks the cathartic release or simplicity that made those tunes and instead sounds forced and generic. The electronic drums could be taken out, and Chris sounds like he's singing with a sore throat. What happened to the delicate voice that managed to deliver songs such as Warning Sign and Gravity? And was it Paltrow singing the "ohs" in the background? I barely noticed. They're not a big deal and it wasn't necessary to hype the fact that she sang on the track. I'm not very optimistic for this album anymore, at best we'll be getting a poor man's MX. Oh well, maybe it'll grow on me. :-/

I was actually gonna start the AHFOD elimination then to give people enough time to evaluate the album!! ;) So I guess this game will stall for a bit longer.... But to all who might be reading this: please still vote!! I just won't end the round for about a month, that's all. :)
