  1. sorry. didn't mean to post that three times. on the video he plays it in an interesting way for sure. but i believe the chord you wondered about, "but i wasn't one", is an A maj (with the capo it's actually an E chord) but see how this sounds there. X-0-2-2-2-0. or 3-3-5-2-0-0 (closer to what it looks like in the video) thumb on sixth string. this is one awkward song to play. i've heard CM say he doesn't "make up any new chords" as a way of saying "i'm not a music prodigy or music virtuoso, but that second chord i just wrote down. either he or i just made it up cause there is not a good chance with this tuning and capo position, that one has ever been tried prior. It could be called a C maj13/G. which would make sense in a way because it transitions to a Cmaj/G.
  2. i've slowed the album track down to a slow tempo and i'm working out the kinks of what i wrote earlier. Do you have any idea of how to upload a picture or photo. because i can make a chord diagram sheet and instead of tabbing every chord for every lyric, i can just assign each chord a number and then i could just post the chord number over the lyric. otherwise i could just tab every chord and do the same. I can't believe people literally get degrees in music from serious programs, and end up doing this type of thing for companies who publish chord books for popular music. Or what i can't believe is how incorrect they typically are, or at least how much they vary from how it's actually played. I worked out Princess of China pretty much spec for spec how CM plays it on guitar and it's nothing like what any published sheet music suggests. I'll check out that chord you mentioned that sounds too high. if that's how it sounds correct to you, by all means, play it that way. :)

  5. did you find the chords i posted to sound ok? i was a little over caffeinated at the time and up for a challenge cause this song always seemed to out-wit me. yeah. i can do a full tab kind of thing. just a matter of finding some time. transcribing is not a strong point as i just play by ear usually. I do have an app on my iPhone called guitar tool kit. really a great app. it allows you to customize tunings. and to try out different finger positions on the fretboard, strum to hear how it sounds. gives you the name of the chord and you can save the tuning and chords with diagrams to a chord sheet. if i could figure out how to upload pictures it would be ideal for this kind of thread cause instead of painstakingly writing out each chord (this song must have a dozen at least), i could just upload a screen shot of the chord diagrams and at the top it would give the tuning and capo position.
  6. i'll just keep updating this reply. but i am pretty sure i'm on the right track now. Capo 7th. 1st string tuned to D. I get tab a little switched around sometimes. but capo on 7th fret and frets posted are in relation to capo. Strings = E-A-D-G-B-D Em (Bmin7)= 0-1-1-0-0-0 Cadd9/G (Gadd9/D)= 3-3-2-0-1-0 (when he switches to this chord he strums with the fourth string open then hammers the second fret) (also when appropriate in the beginning, he presses the first string on the second fret) 1-0-0-0-0-0 (as a transitional strum before the Cadd9) with the lyric, "Prospekt how could i forget?" I like both these chords. its a variation on an A7 (or E7 with the capo where it is) X-0-2-0-2-2 or X-0-2-4-2-2 (the second one i just barre the second fret starting at the fourth string and use any finger to play the fourth fret. It's an add9 chord but it sounds like it might be the one. even though the sound of the chord on the track just sounds like a dominant 7 chord by ear. Also worth noting. when the lyric "people talking with out speaking" begins the second verse, the order switches from Cadd9 then Emin to Emin then Cadd with the traditional chord with just the 3rd fret 6th string played between the two chords. when he says drums... it's a G chord with the first string open and a hammer-on thing on the first string second fret. that switches to an Emin chord with the second string 3rd fret getting the hammer on thing this time. i'm over this for now. haha. but the chorus is basically a d chord with 1st string open. then transition by adding 4th string fourth fret and 5th string 2nd fret then a C chord with your pinky on the first string, fifth fret (double dot fret) if you can manage it. That's all i got :)
  7. here's a video of chris martin playing prospekt's march on guitar. he has a capo the 7th. if i think i figure out how he plays it, i'll pass along. i know what the chords are, or i've seen them and played them. but putting the capo on the 7th and working out if it's tuned differently will make it sound more authentic. CM has some cool ways of making otherwise vanilla chords sound fresh. if it's not close to standard tuning it's very close cause the chord shapes are easy to spot. 8. i forgot. i have melodyne. sometimes it's pretty helpful for breaking down a song into it's notes. i'll try it. sometimes it can't distinguish the snare drum from a piano note though so it's hit or miss.
  9. i also have found tuning high e to c to work as well. I play guitar through out this clip but blend in pretty tightly until the piano outro. used standard tuning, slightly flat on every string and capo on second. I re-"EQ'd" the album track a little to give the bass a little more presence. just my taste. think it sounds pretty good, and i don't think that about everything i do trust me. prospects march is a really good song i'd like to have in my repertoire as well. underrated for sure. what a chorus. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/you-were-an-island
  10. i've tried to work this one out and always was a little frustrated. Don't recall any of the chord books having anything insightful. you play warning sign with e tuned to d? I can say with certainty that the studio version of warning sign will not work if you use a tuner that uses A=440hz and a capo on the second fret, or any fret, it will not sound good. the reference pitch is 9 cents flat, or 431hz for A. I did a little play along with the album track and was frustrated for a while. I really recommend the "aol sessions" warning sign performance. believe tuning is standard and capo on the second. as for prospects march. i've seen chords that were largely correct sounding, but there was a video i saw of chris martin playing it on guitar and he played very high up the neck and possibly with a capo as well, and no chord book showed that. the chorus is straight forward enough but the finger picking is pretty ingenious and seems to confuse my ear when deciphering it.
  11. If i were to play it on guitar. I like the sound of a G6 chord, with the shape of 3-5-0-4-0-0, in standard tuning. followed by an A played as, 5-0-7-6-5-0 followed by what's an Fmaj7, 1-3-3-2-1-0. doesn't seem to translate to the keyboard though
  12. I've been "playing" piano for around 7 or 8 months now, and I am confident that I have the chords worked out, but I have a feeling he plays inversions or something and my feeble guitar oriented mind can't seem to figure it out. Piano is pretty amazing though. Love it, but it's frustrating to hear he's playing a Gmaj, Amaj, and Fmaj(add9) yet it doesn't quite sound the same. I tried scouring the piano section. any help would be appreciated. I can try to return the favor somehow if possible via guitar although i doubt there are many mysteries left to be solved.
  13. haha. yeah, this is the last place i would expect people to know lesser known songs that chris martin sings
  14. wow. i'm way more impressed with that little thingamajig. but yeah. i can't remember but i think it's detuned. Congrats. You win...a smiley face :) that song where is my boy, i wish he got that experimental lyrically more often. it's out there and dark and pretty awesome. which isn't this song btw. This song has far and away the most aerodynamic waveform i've ever seen on sound cloud.
  15. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/untitled-3 I think the voice of the singer might sound familiar to coldplay fans. Just for fun, don't use one of th0se apps. i mangled it up a little to help with that
  16. I heard this song for the first time a few months ago. Definitely grew on me. I kind of stubbornly tried to work it out on my own, and while i don't think it's wrong..i don't, well its definitely not the way it's played on the EP. I'm happy with how this came out, it's about have coldplays studio track faded in an out from me doing my version. It's pitched down one semitone cause I think this song just sounds better in Eb. Ironically, the album track has no trace of a vocal treatment except some reverb and probably compression, but my amateur recording uses everything available in the free world. haha. guess chris martin doesn't need help like i do in that dept. This song will definitely where some grooves in your fingers as well. If anyone has a more accurate way to play it'd be cool to hear about. i'm not the best finger picker so it's more strummed, and I also imagine having a guitar with a cutout would be helpful here. Let me know what you think and if i wake up tomorrow and and think, jesus did i really post that thing, I might be tempted to take this thing down. I think it's decent though. I can share my chords if anyone wants https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/careful-where-you-stand-11-18
  17. Gmin- 3-5-5-3-3-3 Strings = E-A-D-G-B-E C- 3-3-2-0-1-0 Dmin- (you're way is just fine too) 5-5-7-7-6-5 Fmaj- 1-3-3-2-1-1 A#maj-6-8-8-7-6-6 A#6- 6-10-8-7-6-6 A#add9- 6-X-8-7-6-8 (if you can use your thumb for the sixth string) Dmin7- 5-5-7-5-6-5 Csus4 (with G bass note)- 3-3-3-0-1-1 A#sus2-X-1-3-3-1-1 I think that covers them. seems like a lot, but they are almost all just variations of regular barre chords. Your tab is quite good, and just substituting a couple chords wiht what i wrote, it's spot on. Impressive, especially if you aren't too too familiar with those chords and their names. Hopes this helps out. Cheers
  18. Happy to. I'll just write the tab for each chord. you can likely tell which chord corresponds to which by the bass note (lowest note) of your chords to the letter of mine. For instance, the first chord, which you correctly tabbed is a G minor chord. the lowest note of the chord is on the sixth string/3rd fret, a G note. the 1st fret of the 6th string is F. Sixth Fret of the 6th string is an A# or Bb (for reason involving the scoring and notation of music, we have two names for the five notes of A#,C#,D#,F#,G#, ((C sharp =D flat) and it is something that's caused me plenty of headaches). 8th fret of 6th string is a C note. 10th fret of sixth string is a D note. The chord you tabbed as 5-x-7-7-6-0 was likely meant to be X-5-7-7-6-0, which is the same chord (voiced an octave higher) than the chord you tabbed 10-12-12-10-10-0. Both are Dminor chords. the one on the tenth fret is much more chris martin-y.
  19. That Sad face thing was actually literally colon followed by open parenthesis. Maybe I"m the first person in history to use the sad smiley as actual punctuation. haha
  20. I'll just write the name of the chords, and..I think they could all probably all be voiced open as you have the tuning with the high e tuned down to c. I kind of like the sound the Bbadd9 with the C note played an octave higher which probably needs standard tuning. But it's art and we all have different ears. The chords in the second verse are substantially different from the first Ok. Here are the Chords: (Yours are mainly in agreement but there are a few exceptions) Intro: Gmin/Cmaj/Dmin/Fmaj x2 then A#maj/Fmaj/Cmaj Chorus following into (same in all choruses): Gmin/A#6/Fmaj/E over Cmaj (just open c chord with the low e ringing open) Verse 1: Dmin7/A#add9/Fmaj/C (with or without open low e) wfollowing first mini-chorus, if you will, the chords after the words "every time she closed her eyes": Dmin7/A#add9/Fmaj/Cmaj Verse 2: A#maj/A over Fmaj (X-0-3-2-1-1)/G over Csus4 (3-3-3-0-1-1)/A#maj/Dmin9 (this chord is played when the word "reach" is sung. (X-X-0-5-6-0) try this chord for sure)/Cmaj When he sings "life goes on..." Gmin/A#sus2/Fmaj/C Every tear... A#maj/Fmaj Night the stormy night...A#maj/Fmaj/Cmaj In the night the stormy... A#maj/Fmaj/Csus4 then Cmaj Chorus... La la la la lalala...Gmin/Cmaj/Dmin/Fmaj lying underneath those stormy... A#maj/Fmaj/Cmaj x2 Outro from album version: A#maj/Cmaj/Dmin/Bmaj with a G bass note x2 minus Bmaj at end. That's how i do it when i feel like sight-reading my own notes cause it's a lot to remember. It's also what I played in that sound cloud clip. There is a nice isolated vocal on the internet for the song which might be fun to play along with. Cheers.
  21. ok. yeah. it makes sense you would be able to play the first verse in the key of c, and likely the whole song with the c note open. That said, and this is not bad at all (in my totally subjective opinion), there are a few things that stand out where we disagree. The chorus, although it does basically repeat, actually uses two different chords for the fourth chord of the progression. The first four bars end with a C chord that lets the low E string ring open. Perhaps Coldplay just lets Guy play an E note on the bass to create the chord, but it definitely a slash chord of E over C. and in the 8th bar, the C chord is played with a G note on the open E, like you have tabbed in the intro. We might have a few other minor differences in how we here the chords, but nice job man. I would never have thought to use an open c string with this one. But low and behold, the A#add9 chord that's used a bit in this song contains a C note indeed.
  22. Tell me what you think about my interpretation guitar here and if it's to you're liking i'll post some chords https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/paradiseacoustic
  23. I uploaded a tutorial of the guitar for white shadows. I need to get some tabliture skills I just don't have them unfortunately. The basic chords are G#minor, B maj, D#minor, C#minor, Emaj7, played as barre chords with the D# (high E string) open. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/white-shadows-tutorial
  24. I must have been twelve and heard Yellow on the radio with my parents driving us all somewhere. Just heard the b, f#, and e (i was pretty into guitar at that point), and after those three chords and johnnys riff and i was like, yep, that's the one man..and why and how are they the first ones to play that?? it's perfect!
  25. Thanks man. it's pretty straight forward. G#minor, then B major, the D# minor then C# minor all barre chordes with the bottom string open. there is an e major which in this tuning is an Emaj7, and...i think that's all there is. just different progressions with those chords. fun to play. borderline workout, and definitely a must to stand up. I think i was sitting down and just said to myself, screw it i gotta get up to play this one. I put some low end EQ to bring out that bass dance sound. Appreciate it man.
