God Put a Smile upon Your Face
I was watching live 2003 tonight for the first time in a long time and remembered what an awesome and energetic song this is. So I did this and tried not to bounce around in a bad Chris Martin impression while it was recording. Hard to stand still though through this one. I know he plays it as an open C# tuning, but i find it more natural to just tune the guitar down three steps and slide the Emaj chord around. As for the lead, i don't know how Johnny doesn't miss any notes ever. this took a few attempts that's for sure in between some choice words of frustration. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/god-put-a-smile-on-your-face https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/god-put-a-smile-on-your-face-1 1st one is an instrumental. second one has a vocal

Cemeteries of London @ Main Square Festival 2011 Chris Martin guitar tab
here's a link to a photo of the set list and tuning for the viva tour. Cemeteries of London is "A-A-D-G-B-E".http://i1363.photobucket.com/albums/r705/cedmo013/ScreenShot2014-01-01at13746AM_zps5fc68c24.png Then there is a little 6 circled which probably refers to the capo

Anyone Have Chords For Fun (Written By Coldplay) By Natalie Imbruglia?
This song is evidently one hundred percent within the key of C major. Melodyne is sometimes not accurate at deciphering exactly what's going on within a song, but it is good enough to determine that every note is within C and that C maj or some close variation is the tonic chord. So basically, this song likely consists of C maj, and likely a few of these chords: E min, G man, D min, A min, or F maj. I didn't hear any thing that sounded like an augmented chord or diminished chord so I think that should be a good starting point. I like this song too. The lyrics are quite good IMHO especially

i think you're right tuning it up to an A would be the better option. Just haven't tried it. It is worth noting for those of us who don't have any business adjusting a bridge or truss rod (i'm sure i'd ruin my beloved martin in a matter of minutes) that changing a guitar's tuning from higher to lower or lower to higher tensions on a regular basis will effect the intonation and also the tone of the strings. That said, even standard tuning will cause some bowing in the neck over time. I've been playing for a while, but i'm just learning this stuff. Just read that a higher action actually makes for a louder acoustic guitar. Last note. I did manage to see the programme or some document that had the tunings for the various songs and guitars used on the viva tour. and Cemeteries of London was indeed A-A-D-G-B-E. Also came across a cool transcription of Violet Hill that i'll have to share.

maybe putting an "a" string on the guitar in place of the low e string?

Cemeteries of London @ Main Square Festival 2011 Chris Martin guitar tab
This is an honest question: how on earth would you tune a guitar to have the low e tuned to a. It either means going so low that the string has little or no tension and a bunch of fret buzzing, or tuning up high enough to ruin the neck of the guitar or having the string snap. One of the benefits of owning many guitars is that ideally, each one would be set up to a particular tuning. Otherwise, especially with coldplay songs like god put a smile upon your face, it's pretty tough to keep the guitar in tune and even if all strings are tuned perfectly when played open, they likely won't up and down the fret board. A-A-D-G-B-E is a new one for me! never in a million years would think to try it

Cemeteries of London @ Main Square Festival 2011 Chris Martin guitar tab
what i have so far. i saw a video or two from other performances and he always seems to use the capo on the sixth. it's essentially an e minor, a c chord with a 3rd fret sixth string g note played with the c chord (Cmaj/G) and an A minor which he plays high on the neck so (in order from lowest string to highest) (11-13-13-11-0-0 or 11-13-13-11-11-0) play around with the order and if we work out whether he uses a different tuning then we can hone in on it better

Glad you posted this. That looks fun to play and it sounds awesome. It just sounds like a crazy tuning doesn't it, and it looks like he's got a capo on the 6th. I remember, I think, seeing that someone in this forum had posted a copy of a programme for the viva tour in which they printed off tunings for the different guitars/songs. Ring a bell? Vaguely remember seeing cemeteries of london having a very odd tuning

Anyone have accurate chords for Prospkect's March?
you might have a very valid point/question. let me take a quick listen and see if i can help either correct my interpretation or explain what i think he's playing. Here's a very brief tutorial that goes through that part you mentioned. Basically the missing link in the time from you're talking about is a C chord with the G note on the 6th string played, then he let's go of both the 6th and 5th strings and let's the chord become an Amin7. so X-0-2-0-1-0. So you are right that it goes from a major to a minor chord at the spot you mentioned. It Just doesn't really take much to change the chords. it goes from C maj. add9 (3-3-2-0-1-0) to an Amin. add11 (X-0-2-0-1-0). Without the detuned E string, it would be going from a C chord to an Amin7, like the chorus from What If. he does that in the chorus in standard tuning with a capo on the second fret. here's a link to a short walk through. Cheers :) https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/prospekts-march-partial

Chords For Chris Martin's Version of "The Fear"
Chris Martin's choice for the second to last chord voicing in the verse is (with your tuning): 1-1-3-3-2-0 See if you prefer this one. 1-3-1-3-2-0. it actually looks closer to where his fingers go, but it's hard to say. whichever one sounds better :). I like the sound of it as 4-6-6-3-0-0 then 2-6-6-2-0-0 for the last two (with the E-A-D-G-C-F Tuning.) but it's definitely not how chris martin played it or even the same chords

well that tuning would have been about 200th on my list of guesses and it sounds awesome; maybe even better than chris martin's version. :) joke. Thanks for sharing that, seriously. You're definitely right about the last chord in the second section of the chorus. See how you like the sound if like have way through that chord, letting the 3rd string play open. Don't blame you for trying to play it spec for spec the way Chris plays it cause he definitely is kind of a genius with voicing chords. I used all your chords for this except the last two of the verse and i tuned the low E to D. Recored in my roommates bathroom, the best natural reverb i've come across. haha. see what you think about this interpretation. granted, it's not identical to Chris Martin, but thank you again for the tuning. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/the-fear

Chords For Chris Martin's Version of "The Fear"
if you're comfortable with barre chords, something that'd work well for those last two chords in the verse is to play it, with your tuning, 6-8-8-7-0-0 then 6-8-8-6-0-0

Chords For Chris Martin's Version of "The Fear"
nice job dude. like that F and C tuning. theres a chance he's using a different tuning but yours sound sweet. try this for the missing last chord in the verse. X-4-3-3-1-0. That's with your tuning. If I had any suggestions for any of your chords, did you just want exactly what Chris Martin is doing in the video? I'm trying it with the album version and it's nice with your tuning and the low e tuned down to D. Everything seems to fit well. With your tuning, you could also try 2-4-3-3-1-0. Chris martin definitely has his thumb on the second fret for that chord and he plays with his thumb on the first fret for the F chord at the beginning so chances are his low e is not tuned differently.

Chords For Chris Martin's Version of "The Fear"
this is a well written nice song. never heard it. I'm gonna try it out on the ole guitar. That song fun you posted about..think it had some potential but something didn't translate to that album recording. the lyrics are pretty quality though and i bet i could have been a great song. just seems to be missing something or off in someway

Check out this little acoustic cover I did with the high e tuned to c. Have you tried playing it this way? That guys rendition is good no doubt though. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/the-scientist

I need book suggestions!
If you like music (which considering the site of your post, I imagine you do), there is a great book called Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks. Non-fiction but fascinating and by no means dry or technical. Full of great stuff, occasionally eye opening and head scratching will occur throughout.

Anyone have accurate chords for Prospkect's March?
Here's my final take on it. That was a B!$%& to work out for some reason. I wish there was an easier way to post the chords. I will definitely try to do a thorough job. I didn't see anywhere on the internet that had this this right. K. Done with Prospekt's March for now! https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/prospekts-march

Cubie. When he sing..."but I wasn't one..." it's an Amin7. so X-0-2-0-1-0. Then you add the top two strings 3rd frets to make a Cadd9 3-3-2-0-1-0. I'm gonna re-record it and slow it down or something cause I have it better now

http://s1363.photobucket.com/user/cedmo013/embed/slideshow/ Ok. Starting with the slide with the title of the song. I basically just entered them in order. Notice the tuning and Capo position. This is a song you have to use your ear to play. there are at least a dozen ways to play it even with the capo and tuning where it is. Have fun! let me know if it works or not. Oh. and when he sings, "oh, when I runnn......" take that A7 chord. X-0-2-0-2-0 and slide it down to X-0-1-0-1-0, then back to the g chord/hammer on thing

Anyone have accurate chords for Prospkect's March?
I think I finally got this one. if you know how to post pictures i could post the 24 chords in this song as diagrams. No wonder he didn't play that one live. awkward as anything i've tried. Anything sound really off? i'm sure it's not exactly how he plays it but it can't be too too far off. I like the chorus for sure. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/prospekts-march /Users/charlesedmonds/Desktop/IMG_0963.JPG

Prospekt's March/Guitar
Hey. Here is how I have it worked out so far. don't think it's all the way there accuracy wise, but it's close. when i get the chance I'll tab it, and if there are any chords that sound way off, just let me know. my ears might be a little tired from listening to this one a few too many times. Cheers. :) https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/prospekts-march

Deciphering this tuning
i bet you're right with the tuning. you like it better than this (just out of curiosity)? I think i might like CM's version better although this version allows you to kind of play both lead and rhythm parts simultaneously. The version in this video is definitely just standard tuning with the high E tuned to C. every time I've casually played this around people, it gets a quick look or two cause it's unique sounding. especially the Dminor chord played on the tenth fret.
