  1. I'm trying to think of how many coldplay songs are done with the tuning of EADGBD#. Yellow, Shiver (they had one string different on that one), swallowed in the sea, white shadows...i think i'm forgetting a few. they got some good milliage out of those chords that sounds oh so nice with that tuning. Hard to believe white shadows and yellow are pretty much the same chords. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/untitled-1-2
  2. F$#@. that was something man. just the production value of the video was impressive, much less the piano and guitar playing and effects. i'm sure you can sing as well, with that much musicality.
  3. Thanks guys :) that tuning is tricky. Warning sign is the same way except it's consistent throughout the whole song.
  4. I redid my recording over the album track. improved hopefully, at least timing and volume wise. It might just be me, but I think the tuning might slowly change from the beginning to the end of the song, as far as a reference pitch, which is quite something to decide to do. I included more of the scientist as well. If anyone wants me to post a tutorial I'm happy to for either song or both. I haven't checked if they're already posted but who knows, my interpretation is by ear so it might differ anyway. Cheers :)
  5. I appreciate it honestly. I listened to it today and was like, man that was terrible. i sharpened the tuning on my part, i think it's more like 23 cents instead of 18. funny how things can sound different with earphones and other monitors. thank you though!
  6. Like a few other tracks on the album, the title track on AROBTTH is not only not in standard tuning, it's is not tuned with A=440hz. The tuning for anyone interested is E-A-D-G-B-C. I have also determined it's approximately 18 cents sharp, just sounded right by ear. could be 15 could be 20 not sure. The scientist played acoustically uses the same tuning although it doesn't need to be sharp. He lets the c note ring open throughout both songs. I'm referring to videos of Chris martin playing the scientist on guitar, obviously he plays piano for the album and live. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/arobtth
  7. i have a vauge memory of him doing a short cover of billie jean on howard stern. i'd check that out. it was on piano. probably not what you're talking about. guess they did that live? it's likely the bass line you need to work out. Check this out like five minutes in. Damn. wrong video. it's here somewhere. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VCdnmM8fsA&list=PLE3E79B3D7365FADA]chris martin 11 9 11 p3 - YouTube[/ame]
  8. Politik, at the Grammys with the ny philharmonic . Hands down. Daylight live 2003 as well. Why did they leave it off the cd??
  9. Absolutely. Is it possible to attach a photo in the forum, do you know? My tab transcription skills are non existent so I can post the chord diagrams or even pics of my hands in the various positions. I'm going to post a soundcloud link that walks you through it. Let me know if it works for you. The F7 chord (an F barre chord with the bottom to open) is used a bit so if i left out a few instances where something is missing, id give it a try. like when he sings, it doesn't matter who you are, when he sings the word are, thats a switch to F7. Don't forget to tune your guitar E-A-D-G-C-Eb. Otherwise, who knows what it'd sound like haha. Take care https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/square-one-tutorial
  10. I ended up getting pretty into it and gave square one the album track a fairly different feel with some equalization, guitar and a few other little things. Let me know if you like it or if I butchered it. :) Less is more usually, but i went with more here. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/square2
  11. I originally posted something about the B side "animals" which i personally always liked. But for whatever reason, thought i'd put the acoustic guitar with square one because i had a feeling it'd sound good. And as elecronic as the song sounds, I would bet the wrote it on guitar, mostly because each chord fits perfectly in the signature style of leaving the bottom strings open and tuned to fit the key of the song. Square One in particular makes me wonder why X&Y gets trashed as an album so often, especially in comparison with it's critically acclaimed descendant, VLVODAAHF (that's a ridiculous acronym, maybe I'm supposed to leave out some of those letters). X&Y was probably a little over cooked and almost too perfect and perhaps inhuman that way, but it's got some great stuff on it. Behind politik, square one is an HELL of a track to start an album (they have a knack for that don't they). If you tune your guitar to E-A-D-G-C-D# and let the high e and b string ring though out, it's not too tough to pick up. I just wish I thought of this one first. hah. yeah right. I was lucky enough to have recently bought a Martin and realized the ceo's name is Chris Martin. Go figure. Here is my re-EQ'd version of the album track with my guitar in it (hopefully not subtracting) plus a link for a tutorial. I can barely read tab much less write it. Last thing, I wouldn't leave a nice guitar in these weird tunings for too long, unless you don't mind a bowed neck. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/square2 https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/square-one-tutorial
  12. no order. Yellow Amsterdam Politik Violet Hill GPASUYF I Ran Away Daylight (best musical representation of the state of epiphany imho) Warning Sign The ending to Up with the Birds The Scientist A Whisper and AROBTTH THe end of Strawberry Swing (Check out the vocal harmony Frank OCean adds. Brilliant) Death and All his friends (live)
  13. best of what's around. DMB. now there are some odd chords! or maybe ingenious is the word. one spans a solid six frets. ouch https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/best-of-whats-around
  14. and always good for some carpel tunnel syndrome!
  15. Thanks! Their b-sides would be just about anyone's best work.
  16. I had never heard this song, Bigger/Stronger, until only a few weeks ago, which is always fun because i've been pretty diehard since i heard the first three chords to yellow on the radio in 2000. Anyway, i figured this one out (bigger stronger) and am again impressed with the chord sequencing and the sophistication he shows here especially in the chorus. How old could he have been when he wrote this? especially in a time when there weren't exactly a ton of internet resources. It also shows that signature guitar style of generally leaving the high E and B strings, whatever they might be tuned to, open for the majority of his barre chords. Does anyone know if he can take credit for this style that allows the open strings to ring open throughout while using his thumb to play the low E. It certainly rubbed off on my own playing and songwriting. Glad I have long thin fingers to make these chords cause it must be a physical stretch for many. fun to play though and ingenious. All great artists borrow and build on the work of others but CM really seems to use this approach the most effectively and easily the most famously. The chord books I all looked at had this one completely wrong btw. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/change-my-atmosphere
  17. Tuning for Lukas I have found the tuning of EADGG#D# to work great. and also fun to play around with. this is transposed a few steps down but it works with the same chords from the song as well. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/me-trying-to-be-creative-at
  18. Careful where you stand. Had never heard it before. Not surprised the chorus is clever and just plain pretty sounding.
  19. probably adderal and melodic, intelligent, emotion driven, introspective soft rock. there might be a band associated with this website that fits description of the music i prefer. as far as adderal, hey, way over prescibed to young people and then we grow up and need it as adults.
  20. It's chris martin and faultline. Really good lyrics. I added a small amount of guitar, piano, and some drums. Believe he did this prior to AROBTTH. https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/where-is-my-boy
  21. :) ok, well i wish you luck. a bassist with questions about when to play or switch notes might have me shaking in my boots but i'm sure you will have fun. Don't panic and maybe one or two others are possibly the only songs i can think of off the top of my head that use a standard tuning in a coldplay song when guitar is involved. I have the E-A-D-G-B-Eb tuning saved as "the coldplay tuning" in my little book cause that is the sound of yellow, shiver, swallowed in the sea, white shawdows and probably a few others...it gets a lot of use they make it sound great. (Yellow and Shiver use E-A-B-G-B-Eb) but i don't see why it's a must. take care :)
  22. Last thing. Sorry I like solving these little puzzles. I'd try tuning your low E one step down to D#. you'll have the option of playing that low D# which would sound good here,
  23. Yeah, I'm sorry, I wrote down an A# in the verse. that tab is right. should have just picked up the guitar. it is most definitely, C#/D#/G#/F for the verse. wouldn't things be simpler if we just used sharps instead of flats and sharps? haha. i saw Ab, which is a G#, and wrote A#. Anyways...good luck. Go with that tab. i'm playing what the tab says and it says C#/D#/G#/F all the way through and that sounds fine when played. Feel free to get a little creative with notes in the scale of G# Major. If it sounds good and it's not spec for spec from the album track, even better. Have fun. Cheers
  24. try this for the chorus. G#/D#/A#/F. let me know what you think. you can aways just use different octaves of these notes if it sounds too monotonous. Guy definitely plays a deeper D# note than G#, but its appears he just alternates octaves for each measure instead of something more complicated
