I agree with you. But why would he soundcheck those songs then? It makes no sense to me.

I was watching soundchecks of this last tour and I noticed they soundcheck the elder songs like One I Love, Spies, High Speed, AROBTTH... Just wish they have played them live this year... Do you think the band still have the rock inside their skin, but are just limited because their record company "makes" them do commercial music? I mean. If they were not interested in this type of music anymore and they were not playing that night why would they soundcheck it?

In the list of things that make me hopeful...

Thanks for pointing that out. Musically it would be better if Chris moved back to London. Being in the studio the four together is the best way possible to start a creative process and engage better, thus creating better music. I understand Chris when he wants to be with his kids. But come on dude. Who cares about Gwyneth? Just move with the kids to London. [emoji14]

Chris has always been an optimistic guy. I like that. I really do. But mostly this era, it seems like he forces it too much. I mean, the majority of the songs this era were about happiness and togetherness and possibility (Up&Up, AHFOD, Miracles(SE), LiB, etc.) and i don't feel like it's really genuine and the reason he is like that, it's because it fits the "album theme". I mean, what king of guy breaks up from his wife of ten years, make a super sad album and a year after is saying "life is beautiful", "anything is possible if you believe in love"? He must be really optimistic because I wouldn't handle it very well, or recover only after a year... That being said, I don't want Chris to be sad :p at all. It just feels... weird.

I was reading LP7 thread and it made my laugh a lot. We were hoping for a "electronic AROBTTH" and a song like "Crest of Waves"... And then AHFOD comes.

LiB is very bad, but SJLT is even worse... From 5 or 6 new songs to perform live, they chose the worst 2... GJ Coldplay.

Did you liked Chris' speech at the end of the tour? I liked the part of "this is the end of a chapter, from now on it'll be full of surprises", that really gives me some hope about the future, although it could be a bad surprise :P but let's not think of the worst case scenario... On the other hand the "We're in this together! Anything is possible if you never give up. And if you believe in love!". I do like love and togetherness, but I'm getting a little tired of this bulls**t. Sorry if you don't agree with me, but that's just my opinion. Don't mean to offend anyone. I miss the "I don't give a fuck" Chris who just appears in the middle of the MTV EMA without his pants and Jonny goes Jazz and the Nappies and stuff like that. And you go to Super Bowl, where 90% of the public are men above his 40's and you sing about "Believing in Love". And please bring back Brian Eno!

X Marks the Spot is the worst song Coldplay has ever done...

I know this song is pretty well known but it's also one of their masterpieces and shows Jonny's shoegaze influences. I really hope I see more of this in the future as i really like MBV and Slowdive. PS: This is the funny thing about Coldplay, don't you agree? Each album is poppier than the one before, yet we all have hope that this changes. Let's wait.

Although a indie album would make them free to do whatever the f*** they want. I think they still got their rockier vein present. Let's just remember they sounchecked High Speed about a year ago. Or the acceptance "speech" to this year EMA. Or AICTAIY and ALIENS. I do have hope. They (Chris) just need to open his eyes and look at his band from outer space and where they are heading. Maybe he'll realise this is not what they want. It's not what Guy, Will and Jonny surely want. I really want Jonny shoegaze influences to come to life. Maybe chris just need what Brian eno did to him when he met the band. He needs to quit the band for a while to let the others gain some trust and to let them do what they want to do. Right now I think it's all about chris. And I don't like that.

A Tame Impala-ish album would be too good to be true...

I know that, and I enjoy SJLT. Great tune to sing in the car. Just not the kind of song that I was hoping for Coldplay... And after repeating Someone Special, I must admit that I kinda like the song but the Big Sean part just seems so wrong imo...

This EP brings hope. Coldplay is not dead. But still very far from the Coldplay I love. The coldplay I love would never do a song with chainsmokers or big sean. Also the fact that ALIENS is an old VLV song makes me sad because I would love if this was the genre that coldplay is now and not the genre that coldplay was 8 years ago. Still happy that they brought up this little treasure. Overall: good EP. Some weak spots but a hell of a improvement from AHFOD. My evaluation: 7/10

So much hype for A L I E N S... I will laugh if it turns out to be a X Marks The Spot 2.0 The lesson is, get your hopes down, I don't like to get disappointed, so let's not hope for the best and just let it happen...

This is why Coldplay are never gonna return to the old Coldplay, because they can release an amazing song (AICTAIY) and then release this thing... (Miracles: SS) The consistency of a full good rock album (AROBTTH) from the top of the first page to the end of the last day, is completely lost...
