October saw Coldplay visit new countries, ride unicycles, and of course release their highly anticipated fifth album: Mylo Xyloto. October 1: Rock in Rio festival Coldplay kicked-off October with a bang, as one of the headlining acts at Brazil’s Rock in Rio Festival. The band played a mix of new and old songs, against a background of the bright colours which are now characteristic of the Mylo Xyloto era. A highlight for many people in the crowd, was Chris spray-painting the word ‘RIO’ on the backdrop, during the show. August was a very exciting month for Coldplayers all over the world. It was peppered with festival dates, LP5 news and glorious, glorious redemption: Confirmation of Mylo Xyloto’s existence! The experience was nerving and tumultuous for avid Coldplay fans. NEWS Coldplay rumors were running rampant! The buildup for the as-yet-untitled LP5 was astounding. The most pressing question was: What will the new album be called? Here are a few examples of failed rumors, both ridiculous and fairly good guesses. July July was full of concerts pics, videos, reviews and streams. Also there were loads of news & gossips & tweets about the new album : MYLO XYLOTO. we didn't have any clue about the name of the new album. there were just 'hard to spelling' and some clues about Jonny's parts. Having previously explained their new sound is inspired by New York graffiti, Coldplay took to wearing relaxed-coloured jackets, contrasting t-shirts and carrying around cans of spray paint. May was a big month for Coldplay fans. Anticipation for Coldplay's fifth studio album was on it's climax. Forum was full of rumours and speculations. South African shows were announced, the Oracle confirmed that the LP5 won't be called "Alien Radio"... But the end of May was a bang. March was a busy behind-the-scenes month for Coldplay, yet it was full of anticipation and speculation for Coldplayers. Rumours about their fifth album were slowly emerging, as well as announcements of festival performances for later in the year. New material was on the horizon, but March 2011 also saw the 10th anniversary of the release of Don't Panic, the fourth single from their debut album Parachutes. #1: New website layout Coldplay launched an ever so slightly new look website, revealing a new link button to the news page. Despite LP5 not being released for another eight months, February of this year proved to be a busy and exciting time for Coldplay and Coldplayers alike. There were several big things that took place over the course of this month. Let's take a look, shall we? Event #1: EMI Buy-out On the first of this month, it was announced that after several years in the ownership of Terra Firma, EMI would now be in the hands of US-owned CitiGroup.
