^If I had known more Christians like you as a child, I might haves tayed with it. I miss my faith...I wish I could have it back, and I don't know if it's possible, but with people like you, and attitudes like yours, Christianity looks better and better!

Whatever I was thinking got blown away by Emily's post.

it makes me sad to think that there are people out there who have been completely turned off to christianity because of their encounters with certain types of people. it's really my hope that i can change that around, and help christians realize that no matter what people do, no matter what the sin is, our job as christians is to follow christ. that means loving everybody as well as trying to introduce people to christ. :D

lol. i have that effect on people. ;D

^All of us need to learn to forgive, but if there is a god, it's up to that god to judge, not us. Makes me hopeful that others see that.:)

dear mad hatter, my name is valerie, and i do have a question regarding your faith. to further introduce myself, i was born into christianity, to a family that indulges to go to church for christmas, weddings and funerals, but never really discusses the values connected with it.

i've always been very keen on religious matters, i still think jesus was a really good and highly inspirational dude ( but for me hardly the only one), so i've stepped out of all religious schools. i'd call myself an agnostic, but tend to think there's no God out there. or what you would call God is simply love to me, so i believe in deciding for the good, the conjunctive, well, for love actually.

my question now is, would you accept my opinion that jesus is inspiration, but not more than buddha and krishnamurti or any deeply humanistic person out there?

for me, religious people take a detour to live and discribe very simple things, and they tend to mix up the order of importance when claiming that the symbolic content of their given faith has anything to do with THE THING ITSELF. which is simply love, or the striving for love as much as possible.

is that even a question? ah, yes, you said, you want to introduce people to christ, which is giving me a bit of a headache, being an agnostic, you know. why not simply introduce them to the idea of love ( in all it's forms, namely, compassion and empathy) being able to transcend and transform many of the odds and crazy problems we produce and have to deal with.

now i introduced you to ethics without religion. :D

please understand that i'm not at all confrontational. i reall think though, that the world is becoming too small for that exclusive faith-model thing. getting inspired by someone, eg jesus christ, yes, but not exclusively. the way i understand jesus, he would prolly totally agree.

i wouldn't accept it in a religious sense (i wouldn't call you christian, but neither would you, lol), but i wouldn't put you down for it or belittle you for it. i think many other religious figures were pretty cool guys, but that doesn't make me not a christian. i think it's cool that you still find inspiration from jesus, and i'd be happy with the world if many other people did, even if they weren't christians.

my theory is that if you introduce people to love and other concepts, then more will be open to christ. and if you don't get around to the christ part, or convert someone, or whatever, you've still got a cool person wandering around thinking, "hey, it's awesome to love others" (though i'm not suggesting that only christians can be open to love or be loving and only christians can spread love). it's always ethical to love others and i think it's always ethical to try to help people learn to love others, no matter what you believe or don't believe in.

the thing is that i'm a christian, and part of my life is telling people about jesus, whether in passing or in a situation like mission work or whatever. if somebody does not want to accept my faith, it's not my place to keep digging at people.

this is just my religious preference and how i believe i'm meant to carry out different aspects of my religion. i still think that there's a lot of religions out there and a lot of teachers out there who are very inspirational, whatever their religion may be, but i have chosen this path, and this is the one i will follow.

if that answers anything. i just woke up. :S it really comes down to preference with religion, where ethics doesn't. i'm pretty sure that it's always morally acceptable to love someone and tell others to at least try to love people, but there are probably ways you can make trying to convert people to a religion immoral. xD religion does not have a place in ethics anyway.

^^ i'll come back to chrestemily's synchronised thoughts later, or tomorrow probably!

from swiftly browsing through, it seems to be acceptable -and sounds rather nice-christian to me.

never the converting bit though. :P ( but i got your point there, i suppose.)

so, a more in depth reply later, writing about such matters in a foreign language isn't exactly easy, haha. i get terribly worked up with my shitty random mistakes, which I'm producing all the fucking time, you know. :)

Why the accent? :blank:

Lol, this happens to me on Facebook all the time. Why ask if they already know?

I'm thinking I'm sick of the secrets.

feels strange when a protective adult ask as if i were still a child or something. is ok they care, but meh.

Hmm the movie is coming out soon than I thought.... But it'll take them awhile to get an English cast and a North American release..... Speaking of North American releases! *goes to wikipedia* Aha! November 2011! :awesome:

Not going to listen to the snippet. Would rather hear the whole song. *GAAH! *searches for the willpower* :)
