yay i'll continue to talk to myself. i have completed the body of my essay (thank the lord). any comments for those who bother to read it? it isn't that long, really. :P

 

 

With the new twist on the play, the film somehow manages to relate so much to the average Joe. Everything is put into familiar terms, such as the setting. It relates directly to the audience of this time because that is what people live with and know, the marketplace isn’t familiar to us anymore, the gas station is. Also, Romeo and Juliet were not the only people to deal with “forbidden love”. Love is not just what is forbidden, it’s rebelling against their families and family’s beliefs, which teens and kids are doing all the time. There are also the key components that are huge, such as the visuals, music, styles, and the beautiful young actors all appeal to the large majority of the audience. It’s what the audience likes, and what the audience wants that will get the majority of fans.

 

Baz Luhrmann has solved the mystery of the Shakespearian language, but not only that, he has broken it down into understandable terms for the youth all over the world. The play is about two teenage lovers from completely different families with rivalries so big, it is like inter-racial or inter-faith marriages. If the viewers were to think of it in that context, then they would understand the depth of their rivalry fully. How the movie is seen also helps to express the story without the viewers actually understanding that language that is being spoken. The audience sees what is happening rather then the message being told through language. The fact the Luhrmann has also used some well known actors in his movie has an impact on the response to it. Kids are more willing to accept the language that is used because it is coming from a familiar face

 

Baz Luhrmann adapted the original script into his own style, and changed things to make it fit better in today’s world. Instead of using swords, he chose the modern weapons of guns, which were labeled as swords. Some of the viewers most likely found that extremely clever and amusing. Also, instead of using the plain windowsill scene, he had Juliet come down in an elevator and wander around the pool, and in pool fully clothed. The old climbing up a tree and proclaiming their love is overdone, it’s good to see some new light shed on the subject. The prologue in this film was repeated twice, the first was by a new caster who also does the closing, and repeated again right after it. Incorporating the media into the film makes it more realistic because it’s everywhere all the time, it just gives the viewer a chance to know that this version isn’t all what you think it is as well. All of these changes not only help the viewers understanding of what’s happening, but also keeps their attention with every new twist and change that is added.

Why is the remake better?

It's just different, rather I bold statement i'd say.
