wayne
every yamaha acoustic i've ever played has been an excellent guitar. admittedly, that's only three, but i'd recommend one. can't say anything about falcon's i'm afraid.

Gas_Man
my advice, is to buy a second hand cheap guitar...and practice on that! because, lots of people seem to want to learn and play, but give up. and, if you give up, or, it's not for you, then, you've only spent a little bit of money. But...if you're practicing on a cheaper [slightly not as good] guitar...then, the newer, more expensive and easier to play Guitar, will be something good to look forward too, and you can have the joy off looking forward to the day that you think you're ready to buy a good guitar, and it might make you want to practice more/harder. Once you have the new guitar, it'll be Easier to play because you've had to tackle your way through a harder start.! :)
kimberlina
yeah i dunno if i would keep playing it or not....im a bit worried coz i have quite small hands and not very long fingers so i think it depends if i can physically play it! thats a good idea tho gas_man... then hopefully i would stay motivated! :) thanks guys- i'll let you know how i get on! :)
Cabroncito
I started learning on a cheap guitar that my mother bought me for christmas a few years back. After about a year of practicing i decided to buy my own after trying out a few friends guitars. :rockstar: Yamaha is a great acoustic (at least the models i have played), but my personal favorite/recomendation would be a Takamine Jasmine. I prefer the sound and tone you get from one of those. Â Mine is acoustic/electric... in case i feel like plugging into an amp :sneaky:
Aad
o.k....I bought a Yamaha Pacifica electric guitar with a amp and all for about 250 pounds....(I guess....since I'm dutch it cost me 800 gulden back then).. ;)  Enjoyed playing on it for about a year, and then bought a Epiphone black beauty.....great stuff!! But, I think you should think about what you want to play: Acoustic or electric? I knew from the start that I was interested in playing guitar because of the amazing sound you can pull out of your amps and effects units, so electric was the clear choise for me....... (but, in about 2 months I'm going to buy my first acoustic guitar, because, well, how do you play all coldplay songs without an acoustic ;) )
*Justine*
Yah, a cheap one would be a good idea, an easy learning guitar. Then, once you develop your skills you can get something better.

IrishDawg
The Squier Strat is always a good one for beginners, it'll last you about 2 years, then you might want to replace it, maybe not. The new ones made in Indonesia are quite a bit better than the ones made durring the late 90's. Most places have a squier strat pack that comes with an amp, extra strings, a cable, a tuner, and a few other things you'll need to begin. I've only been playing about 8 - 9 months and my strat is still in perfect condition and sounds great considering how little I paid for it. Good luck! Cabroncito
SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO THINK ABOUT!!! Sorry for the caps, just needed your attention. Anyways, as far as an acoustic goes, when your looking for your first one to learn on, try and find one that has a low bridge. That way, you don't have to press down as far on the strings to get a chord.  My first guitar has about a quarter inch space between the strings and the fretboard., so try out whatever you buy first. Cheers! Eagle131
Don't try to get one that's too low, or else you'll get buzzing which drives me ba-zonkers! lol. I got my action adjusted though, and it sounds fine...but anywho... What sorts of brands of guitars did you have in mind? If you're just starting, I reccomend a cheapass Suzuki guitar. They're at an affordable price for beginners. I started out on 2 suzukis. I still have one of my suzukis, it's not bad but not as good as a MArtin :) There's a Martin plant close to my house, maybe I can steal one :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
twin4life
you could always try renting a guitar in the meantime also, if you don't have too much extra money.
Bar
i started with an old cheap acoustic guitar... but now I have a classic guitar, and I love the sound! I like it even more... so I would probably recomend that one more because it allowes you to play more with your fingers. don't start with an electric guitar, it's a whole different sound and it has more techiniques than the acoustic one... at least in my opinion
ksg_tarheelfan
My first guitar was an ol' cheapo i bought off eBay for $40. It was crap...but I learned the basics on it. It wasn't worth 40 in my mind though. I got an Alvarez now...i'd recommend it if you decide to keep playing. You can get a good one for $250. The price is great, it has incredible sound. Don't get Martin's or Gibson's till you've played a while. I love guitars.
