so i went to Tower Records.......

Featured Replies

A few days ago I went to the mall and i went into tower records just to check stuff out you know, and whenever i go to record store i always like checking how many copies are left from the Coldplay albums, cause i like to see how they're selling :)

So anyways, a few days ago i went to tower records and i was SHOCKED! There were like 50 X&Y copies left in the store (most times there are about 5-15 copies) They also lowered the price by about 50%- i was soooo sad i wanted to cry. And I felt like buying half the copies just so i could feel better, plus they were pretty cheap. They cost 50 shekels, which is about 10$... usually they cost 90-100 shekels.

I know, or atleast i thought, coldplay were doing really well over here. So i was thinking maybe the store just made a massive order because the other 2 albums sold really well... or maybe people just stopped liking coldplay :(... i wanna go back to that same store and see how things change.... but i feel so bad :(

It's a finicky public that the music industry has to deal with. As soon as a band emerges on top, everyone clamors that they've lost their former luster, they're too poppy, they should be challenging the public rather than playing it by numbers(yeah, people always love something new, right?), all that crap. Some have taken to saying these things now, and by the fourth album's release, you can expect a lot more of the same.

That's why it's simplest to live by this simple creed: The band can record what they want to. If people like it they like it, if they don't, they don't. Bands should play more for themselves than anybody else -- even the hardcore fans. The alternative is to lack enthusiasm for what they're doing, and that could only make things worse.

Yah, that happens to me all the time, I ordered a Bloc Party album from Japan, because I wanted it to much. Then it was on sale at hmv for $12.

They may have just received an order. Did you ask. After all they went platinum after 2 weeks, and I purchased mine after that. I am not at all tired of them and bought their 2nd album because of X&Y. I listen to them every day; I love Coldplay and they are not going to fade that fast, especially with all the touring.

they're not gonna fade at all, they rock and the public is gonna acknowledge that :)

i know they're doing good here, and they won't fade. Speed of Sound was no.1 on our chart for i think 5 weeks, and that's pretty good. It's still in the top 10. But record sales are usually the best way to see how an artist is doing- if it sells then the artist is doing good, and if not.... well he's not. Although these days it's not exactly accurate because of interent downloading etc.

i just wish coldplay would see how well they're doing here, and they'd have a chance to come here **dreaming**

Yeah, i agree. Bands should just focus on making music that they like. There's always going to be people who like it and does that don't but who cares. You can't please everyone. :/

I know a lot of people who have decided not to buy X&Y because they heard it was a departure from their past work. If I had to do it over again, I'd still buy it, but with hesitancy.

In America - went to Border's book/music store and saw a few X&Y on the display for Best Sellers. A few more on another rack; asked sales person about Coldplay = he said it is one of their best sellers. I hesitated buying A Rush of Blood to Head because I like the songs on X&Y so well - all of them. I now like both albums. They are unique and have their own sound. I root for them all the way.

to the original question, these record stores know how popular coldplay are the world over so they order a certain amount in and casue they sell fast they then get loads more in but find that they have got too many, i dont think its casue their not selling, i thinks its prob to do with the fact people have bought else it were.

Wow sos was in the top spot for 5weeks...thats fucking great for some reason RETARDS :dizzy2: :freak: in the uk would rather have crazy frogs single (w2hich was no1 for 4wks) than quality music such as coldplay.
