hey all, me and my sis were looking on a site at scenic photos and we came across this pic....which we have seen sooo many times....but we have no clue about it....we just figured it out that it was in brazil ..but anyhoo...anyone have any info on this staute....what it might mean

That is the statu of god on the top of a hill at Rio, but I really don't know what it means. Is really famous and is like a Brazilian Symbol. I don't know anything else.... Sorry

I believe that is the Corcovado and the Statue of Christ the Redeemer. It shows Christ blessing the city with open arms. It was a gift from France, I believe. There's a chapel at the base of it, and from this spot you can get a 360 view of Rio.

well of course you can get a 360 view of rio....its so freaking tall. especially something that's on a mountain.....you can see everything.

damn i was going to put some duran duran in here, but i can't think right now

Statue of Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro

Built by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and inaugurated on October 12 1931 the Statue of Christ the Redeemer stands 710m above sea level on top of Corcovado Mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro. The entire monument is 38m high with the statue accounting for 30m the span from finger tip to fingertip is 28m and there is a small chapel housed in the base. As a vantage point it offers unbeatable views of downtown Rio, the bay, Sugarloaf Mountain and Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches.
