there is always a grey area. someone could have drawn Muhomad having sex with a animal or somethig else. it may be bad but i assure you the artist held back.

This was too far and here's why I say that: Islamic law forbids depictions of the Prophet to prevent idol worship. There is no gray area for this matter; only black and white.

On one hand I understand that many may feel offended by these drawings, and I'm absolutely sure that if the newspaper had known what they know today, the cartoons had not been published.

 

On the other hand, however, the freedom of speech should not be questioned at all. It is absurd that out embassies and flags are being torched, and I'm happy that everyone in here agrees with that! :)

I read this newspaper everyday and therefore I happen to know that these cartoons were published to start a debate. Few weeks before the publication the newspaper had run an article about some artists who out of fear for their safety had turned down an offer to draw illustrations of Mohammed for a children's book. Being a liberal newspaper they were greatly concerned about this "self-censorship"...

 

What began as a regional debate has now turned into an international crisis that have cost Denmark its fine image. My country has lost its innoscence and I'm very unhappy with the misunderstandings that these cartoons have led to, but at the same time I recognise the freedom of expression as our most important human right!

 

Secondly, religious leader in Denmark have made this crisis worse by spreading lies and fake cartoons around the Middle East - treason? Yes. Shame on them! :veryangry2:

Yes. I dont believe in Islam but i do know true Islam teach's peace and love and the terrorist and extremist arent truly muslims and use the religion for war and to trick people. they are making a whole religion look bad much like what the crusaders have done to christianity.

true, we shouldn't look the other way like we are doing now but you can't compare this situation with ww2, during that war and before that, it was clear where and who the enemy was. Now ... everybody can be a terrorist and if we are indeed going to suspect everyone there will be no rest anymore, the whole european continent will be in fear 24/7

Well, the main problem in this is, that most of the muslims who are torching those embassies and stuff NEVER saw those cartoons. They've just been told by high-influential muslims that the prophet was pictured as a pig or so, although the real cartoons are kind of more intellectual.

That's a big problem everywhere, but especially in the islamic world: the people are too hot-blooded.

its nothing more then free speach. like it or not people have a right to dis your relgion. as they do for mine. it comes down to nothing but free speech. i think its mean and wrong to attack most religions. but i believe they have a right to do so. everyone should have teh right to express their ideas and beliefs.

But I will tell you something.If the newspaper have a right freedom of speech,so please be fair.When I want to talk about anyone I must read his biography and see his action not going like blind person and insult him and I didn't know anything about him except his name [ It's shame ]

i agree, its not the same, the world has changed completely ... comparing WWII with this is like comparing WW II with the battles in the middle ages. This is a new kind of war against an enemy that is not clearly visable or of which the location is clearly known.

The thing about this entire discussion is that it has gone out of all proportions...and also those demonstrations. Why don't we see Moslems demonstrating when some extremist abuses their religion and beheads a Western journalist?!

 

Can anyone give me an answer?
