winnie
There are many ways to mute that string but they got one thing in common: You mute a string by just touching it with one of your fingers, not by pressing it down on the fret. It particularly depends on how you do those chords, according to your example: I would press the G-String down with my index finger (2nd Fret) and the B-string with my middle finger (3rd). To push down the E-string I would use my thumb and with the tip of my thumb I just touch the A string. You have to figure out for yourself how much pressure you gotta put on the A string to mute it. Another possibility would be using your middle finger for the G-string, the ring finger (?) at the B-String and the index finger on the low E. But simultaniously you need to touch the A-string with your index finger. Well it's hard to explaing without showing you, but I hope, you understand. There are many ways to do it, so try to find the most comfortable way by yourself :-)

The tip of your thumb will mute the a - string. Chords like that are called inversions or slash chords. That example is named Dsus2/F# Don't worry too much about the naming for now. Here's how to fret that chord using your thumb e| open string b| x-x-3-x-x ring finger in the third fret g| x-2-x-x-x index finger on the second fret d| open string a| mute with tip of your thumb E| x-2-x-x-x thumb on second fret Don't get too caught up in playing that chord. As long as the Dsus2 chord(top four strings) gets played, the song should sound alright.

Sam
how the hell do you get your thumb to the A string and not touch the E string. I would justlay my second finger, the one on the e string over so it just touches the a string.
