Hackers get Mac running Windows

Featured Replies

Hackers have managed to get Microsoft's Windows XP operating system running on an Apple Mac computer.

The success ends a competition started to see if the feat was even possible when Apple unveiled computers that used Intel chips.

The pair who managed the feat won $13,854 (£7,895) in prize money for their trouble.

The software used to put Windows on the Mac is now being circulated so others can try to replicate the success.

Yay!

Soon, we will have tri-options when booting up :)

It was always possible, and the software was out already. It's called Virtual Windows or something like that. It's $100.

Nah--i think that just makes the Apple interface look like it would on a PC--it doesn't allow for the actual windows operating system to be used on a Mac...

or... i could be wrong...

Nah, that is just a skin. The price was for getting windows XP to boot up onto the new intel based Macs

Pretty big news. This will revolutionize the way computers are made and sold to the end-user. Eventually.

Yep, I believe someone has already hacked the Mac operating system so that it can work on an intel PC. Soon a lot more people will be able to use Mac software without spending out on getting an apple computer :)

Which is always a good thing, because I custom built my PC for half-what-the-shop price would have been :)

And now you can get an offical software called Boot-Camp from Apple which allows you to use windows xp/vista onto an intel powered mac.

Now if only Macs were cheaper I would consider one for my next computer
