On May 12, 2006, Gatlin broke the 100 m world record in the final of the IAAF Super Tour meeting in Doha, Qatar, with a time of 9.76 seconds, beating the previous record of 9.77 set in 2005 by Jamaica's Asafa Powell.

Nope, due to an error in the timing, Gatlin matched the world record but not beat it.

 

yep, and looking forward to the competition between he and Powell in June. Hopefully a new world record will be established then.
