Politik

Featured Replies

Well...Does anyone of you what "Politik" means? I couldn't find it in a dictionary. Does it mean politic/wise?

hey, you raise sth interesting!

you're right, I couldn't find it in a dictionnary...

First, when I read the title of this song, I made it matched with "Politics", and when I read the lyrics,it made me think of the politics about feelings... but I just guessed... maybe it's wrong.

it's german for politics :nice:

hehe don't think it does mean any special in english ;)

I've heard of that Chris can speak German. Is that true?

i do have an interview of chris speaking german.

he did learn a little at school. ^.^

and he used to have german neighbours who would always give him chocolate for christmas. lol.

i think that "Politik" isn't meant to be english...

they probably just thought that it's a cool word... and didn't even refer to the english meaning.

^yeah, i think its cooler and more original than "politics".

this year we learned about the policy of "real politik" in the early german empire thing, with bismarck or whatever his name was. when we learned about it, me and my best friend looked at each other in class and head-banged to the opening bit of politik. we do this a lot...with other songs, of course.

hehe... "Politik" is the only song people can headbang to

Actually, I find Proof quite headbangable. :sneaky:

Here's Chris quoted

Ah, that's a good question. You'd have to ask Phil, he's the, what do we describe him as? He's the Don Filippo, the Godfather, who runs operations who nobody ever sees. He said to me ‘Oh, you should have a song called Politick.' And I said ‘Oh, all right'. It's as simple as that.' Because if he says something you do it, unless it's something naff, , but we liked it because it sounds Eastern.. Russian, sounds (laughter) is it rubbish? But it is meant to be with a K because it sounds, it's all right isn't is, we like it as a song title.

I've found it here: http://www.2-4-7-music.com/newsitems/aug02/coldplay.asp

Some say that the boys chose the older way of spelling "Politic" to represent the often0times backwards thinking of many politicians.

I say that they just thought it looked cool. :laugh3:

There is also this

Realpolitik (German: real ("realistic", "practical" or "actual") and Politik ("politics")) is a term used to describe politics based on strictly practical rather than idealistic notions, and practiced without any sentimental illusions.
