Have you ever felt that...

...your age and your mind are not in equilibrium??

i mean...when i was younger i felt that a lot of my friends were really childish, and i felt older than them in a psycological way...and now that i've turned 18 and i'm going to college i feel i'm such a child in comparison to all of my friends...i think i look like a 16 year old girl or something...and i feel that i don't have the same ambitions my friends have...i also feel i should be more independent and more sure of myself than i really am :undecided:

is this making any sense? sorry if not!

oh and sorry if it was already a thread about this

Makes sense to me. You dont need ambitions in life. I know loads of people who have no ambitions and they're perfectly happy. Life is there to enjoy, go out and do what you wanna.

no, it does make sense

I remember when I was back in eight grade and I felt like I was so much older and had a bunch of responsibilities and could do things all on my own. As cheesy as it sounds. Our school only went from kindergarten to eight grade, and then you graduate onto highschool. Being in grade nine felt like starting all over again and all I could do was look up at the people older than I and felt small. They seemed so mature and knew what was right for them and were always leaders.

Now that I'm around the same age as one of those people I would look up at, I still feel so young, not much older. I have hopes and ambitions but every so often I question how realistic are they? Is it worth working so hard on something and not even knowing if it's attainable in the end?

But some of my friends seem to have their lives mapped out.

I don't know if that's good or not, and when or whether or not I should start planning.

I remember that...leaving Grade 8 only to be a 'monor niner' when you thought you had it all figured out...it was SO disconcerting!! I'm 36 now, and it still makes perfecct sense...the thread, I mean. I thought at 25 I understood it all...again at 30, again at 35!! Once we figure out we don't know a thing, we really become wise, because we can just take like in and enjoy it at its own pace...words from 'the old woman' but so far, they proove true for me.

School will eventually be one of the coolest memories you have...but in the meantime, listen to your favorite music and hang on for dear life...lol!!!

i agree with you...but a lot of people ask me what i want to do when i finish my degree! and almost all of my friends have answers! but i don't, and i feel really bad about it! i have absolutely no idea about what i want to do when i finish my degree...but i'm under pressure to give everyone an answer!

^^reading this made me feel a lot better, thanks! ;)

and thanks to the other two people who replied too! :)...sorry but i don't know your names :embarassed:

I can understand you there somehow....my situation is a bit similar...I mean when I was 15 or 16 I always thought my friends are childish...and stuff....and like typical teenies....now that we are 18 and a bit more grown up......I can identify with them....we share the same problems and stuff.......I don't take life as serious anymore as I did when I was maybe 3 years younger....I'm glad about that...

I feel as if I turned a bit younger...or something like that....because if you always want to behave adult.but are just 15.......that sucks...

oohhh, my dear Lilas... I totally understand you!!!! but I'm sure you'll find your way... I think the portuguese school sistem is not very good for these kind of situations... they should create facilities for young students, around 15 or 16 to experience different jobs for a few days, that would help them to pick up their decisions in the future...

I agree & I have the same thing.. it may sound stupid for me since I'm only 14 years old.. though I have the feeling a lot of other girls of my age.. most girls of my age of school are different than me.. I have to say, for a person of my age I act different than I actually should.. I'm no drama - queen, little things make me happy like when someone smiles at me.. so.. I dunno.. though I agree and IT MAKES SENSE

Lili it's like you read my mind with this thread.. I've felt exactly like you do. Like everyone around me, my friends and all, are going places and have everything figured out.. and I feel stuck.. that ain't going anywhere. I'm about to be 21 and I feel most people my age have their goals set while I have no idea of what I want to do with my life.

But sometimes I also feel like I'm around immature people that care about the stupidest little things when there's much bigger and more important things going on in the world..

I don't know.. my view of this changes from day to day.. but mostly I feel like a 15 year old girl in a 20 year old body :laugh3:

yeah i think we all got stuck at 15/16 years old! :laugh4:

sorry to divide your post...it was so that i could answer it better! ;)

haha no probs... it's good to hear (read) that I'm not alone :laugh4: though I am older haha

I already felt this kinda thing cos I realize I'm in this kinda state of mind, right now!!

This is sth strange... and I can't really do sth... I'm not in the same state of mind as in my friends' one... I've never been in the same...

I'm 21. And there's something which chnaged my life, well, in fact there're two things.

*First, I can't remember it, but my father died when I was 3. At the beginning, it didn't have an effect on me.

*The second event which changed my life is my grand mother's death, in 2003.

So, now, you'll wonder what the matter with the topic? There's a matter...

1)->I realized, few days ago that my father was missing in my life.

I noticed I love Chris Martin (I'm still not afraid to say this!!).

->And I guess I loved him cos I tried to figure out a father in someone I don't know at all but who matches with the idea of the father I have.

->I don't know my father at all. His love is missing me. I think that a child needs his/ her mother AND father's love (Here I don't include the fact that the parents might be gay, it would be too complicated to explain... and I've never lived it...)

->My first conclusion is that I'm 21, but in my mind, I'm still 3 whe I think about my father...

2) ->My grand mother brought me up since I was 5. My mother had to work to feed my bros and me.

So I considered my grand mother as my mother.

-> In 2003, the worth year of my life, she died. And Something happened to me. I changed!

-> Before this very very very dark day (although it was sunny...), I was used to smile, to laugh very often. I was still a child.

-> But since this day, all these smiles and laughs disappear... In two months I was 5 years older than before the event...

Life started to be something serious for me....It wasn't the case before...

-> Here my conclusion is I'm older than 21... like if I was 26 or 27...

So, to conclude this long reply, I've got two sides:

*On the one hand I'm 3 years old...

*On the other side, I'm 26, 27 years old...
