Gun siege in Colorado high school

 

Platte Canyon High School is about 56km from Denver

 

Staff and pupils have been evacuated from a US high school in Bailey, Colorado, where a gunman has taken as many as four hostages, US media report. A Swat team and bomb squad have been sent to Platte Canyon High School. There are no reports of casualties and negotiations appear to be under way.

"We have some information that several shots have been fired," sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said.

TV pictures show a long line of people streaming away towards school buses.

A school official said a loud noise had prompted the evacuation.

"I don't know what the noise was," Jan Howard, a secretary to the superintendent of schools, was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency.

'Active shooter'

Snipers are moving into position around the site. The bomb squad was apparently called out after reports of a device inside the school.

US television channel ABC reports that the hostage-taker is "an active shooter".

The suspect apparently took six students hostage and let two of them go, the channel says.

Platte Canyon High and neighbouring Fitzsimmons Middle School have about 900 students enrolled between them.

Bailey is 56km (35 miles) south-west of the state capital, Denver.

It lies in Jefferson County where in 1999 two students killed 13 people at Columbine High School before taking their own lives.

Thats close to where I used to live. I hope no one dies

I disagree. It hardly ever happens in countries where guns are illegal, as they are so much more difficult to get hold of.

But they will never outlaw guns in America. That will never happen, nor should it.

Guns make it possible for people to kill a lot of people in a short space of time. That's the difference.;)

Yes and those people would have died if guns werent legal....its nota gun issue but a culture issue. Take away the guns and people will kill each other with other weapons

Doing anything about guns wont do a single thing except take away our rights, we need to go to the source of the problem, society. Towns that make it a law to own guns have very very low crime rates...thats saying something

Agreed. EIther we ALL need a gun so that noone makes the first move...yeah, right! Or noone should have them. Look at Dawson College in Montreal. Our gun laws are stricter than those of the US...although not much. It's not just an American problem. We've had several high-profile cases in Canada.

 

I know it's not reasonable to expect, but there would be no gun-related deaths if there were no FUCKING GUNS! Franky they're the single most destructive invention up til the A-Bomb in the history of man.

Taking away guns would cause more death. It would leave law abiding citizens defenceless. we'd be letting criminals be armed and people who need to defend themselves be defenceless

 

Like i said getting rid of guns would do no good, thus it would be useless.

 

There would be knife related death's instead, or baseball bat deaths, or poisoning deaths, or scissor deaths....Its not the tool in which people use to kill but the people who kill that are the problem.

I didn't say that I didn't agree with it. All I'm saying is how little of a chance you would have. Maybe everyone should have the right to start walking around with guns..even kids. You think that'll work?:laugh3::dozey:

I would love to live in a world without guns. That would be amazing.
