DRIVER Nasser Khan was shocked when he got a parking ticket - and that yellow lines under his car had been painted while he was parked.

Mr Khan had left his car on Chapel Street, in Salford, where there was a gap in the yellow lines. But while he was away, workmen painted a yellow line under his vehicle... then a traffic warden issued a ticket. The drama was captured on film by an office worker based nearby. Drivers have been parking in a gap in the line on Chapel Street, which had been left after roadworks. When workmen first turned up to repaint it, a parked car meant they had to leave a short stretch unmarked.

"People have been taking advantage of that gap," said Mr Khan, 28, a marketing consultant with Peninsula Business Services, New Bailey Street. I thought I was lucky to get the space, but it was not as lucky as I thought."

'Conned'

Mr Khan said he felt "conned" to have ticket after parking his Toyota MR2 in what he thought was a legitimate space. "It was just a feeling of disbelief and amazement," said Mr Khan, who plans to contest the penalty charge. I thought it was a joke."

Mr Khan claims machinery used to mark the line melted part of his tyres - so he had to to spend £550 on a new set and more than £40 on a taxi to and from home in Rochdale to work the next day. Design engineer Geoff Blackburn, from Blackley, who watched the drama unfold from a window at DR Design Associates in Chapel Street, said: "The car was near the kerb, so there were two gaps in the line where the tyres had been."

When the work was complete, the ticket was issued by traffic wardens. A council spokesman said: "The driver needs to write to us explaining the circumstances. If the account is right, we could not enforce this ticket."

"parking his Toyota MR2"

It should have been crushed, the MR2 is crap.

But it's another funny line painting story to add to the book.
