I could start writing a long appreciation about this album, from it’s first to it’s last seconds, and British Sea Power generally, but I’ll try to stay objective and not too biased, although, I doubt it will work. Because it’s that good, really.

 

Fresh, young and attractive.

 

British Sea Power borrow David Bowie’s voice, Joy Division’s guitar playing and The Smiths’ “happiness” atmosphere, and if to all this we add the intelligent lyrics about nature, geography, history, Russian literature and many other things, we get a creative and very mature album from a band who are in their early 20s.

If we consider that we are living in the worst decade of rock music, this album can easily be an exception and even an example.

The Decline of British Sea Power transmits energy and happiness, but at the same time melancholy and seriousness, as well. This album is colourful and substantive.

It’s fulled-up with rock (“Fear of Drowning”, “Carrion”), post-punk (“Apologies to Insect Life”, “Remember Me”), pop (“Something Wicked”, “Blackout”) and experimental psychedelic (“Lately”, “A Wooden Horse”) sounds. I’m sure you can find “your own British Sea Power song” on this album.

The mood of this LP can’t be described definitely. It makes you think about life, dance and sing along at the same time.

 

If we’d have a NHL Draft, British Sea Power would be the 1st overall pick, without any doubts. They are young, intelligent, modest and creative. Who doesn’t want to have the most talented British band since The Smiths and Radiohead?

 

This album makes today's pop/rock bands callow and weak-minded.

 

The only reason why I didn’t give this album a 10.0 is the potential of British Sea Power. It could be their classic, but it’s not yet.

The time will prove my thoughts, hopefully…

 

This album is a triumph.

Yes - "British sea power" has declined over the years, sadly. Lord Horatio Nelson must be rolling over in his grave.................................. :cry:

BSP is great, very different. They wrote one of the saddest songs I've ever heard.
