My dad got a PSP free through work so we decided to see it. Went for £132 + £10 postage = 100% profit!

Anyway turns out that the guy who bought it had some dodgey things with his account and some nigerians got hold of his paypal and whatnot. I wasn't going to post it before i found out that it was part of a scam as the address was something like bongo bus stop (true).

So I have put it on second chance to a guy who bidded three times and was out bidded in the last minute by £2.00. I just hope he still wants it.

So I have learnt. Never buy/ sell to nigerians.

Oh and thank god i'm not stupid like some and posted the PSP before I got paid.

I've sold stuff in the past and I've put something like "will not ship to africa so don't even bother"

yeah i've seen things like that too.

I did put the auction for UK postage only (to save on all the fuss) but as the postage wasn't gonna cost me anything I didn't mind sending it to nigeria.

In the future i will definately say will not send to nigeria or maybe even out of europe.

Okay, i'm having some weeeird things going on.

I went to ebay to check some movies and ended up bidding on one. Well, it turned out that the item was sold to me immediatelly. No problem with that.

The problem here is that i didn't pay for it 'cause i don't even own a credit card that's acceptable on ebay and i thought i'd be able to pay for the item when it arrives here (go to my local post office, pay there and they transfer the money to the seller's bank account)

So, the real problem here is that the seller SENT me the item althought there's no way i paid for it.

So what the hell should i do?

Send it back?

I already sent the seller a message about 10 mins after it was sold to me saying that i won't be able to pay for it after all and he could put it on sale again. He never responded.

Does he know you have received it?

If he doesn't know that you have received it, lie and say you haven't received it ;)

But back on the dodgy Nigerian scams, always look out for them when selling anything electronics, I once had to re-list a laptop I was selling 3 times, after the first 2 times ended up with a dodgy nigerian person wanting to buy it and send the money across via western-union

well, i've sent 2 pm's to him.

No response what-so-ever.

He also sent me feedback "Good buyer, prompt payment, valued customer, highly recommended."

Bah, i think i'll just wait for a month or so. And if i get no repsonse at all i'll just take the dvd out of the package and add it to my collection.

I'm just afraid that once he realizes that he never received any money he'll report me Bohoo!

That dude sells tons of dvd etc though (19150 so far ) so he may not have time to check his inbox all the time.

the latest news:

The dude sent me a message and it turned out that ebay had told the user that many of the people who bought something from the dude had paid althought they had not paid.

But i'm a honest person so i'll definitely send it back. I wouldn't be able to live with the fact that i stole Shaun of the Dead from someone!

Its tucked away in the Ebay account settings - you can stop people living outside the UK from even being able to bid on your auctions , and set the amount of feedback a person must have before they can bid as well or that they must have a paypal account to bid . Obviously Ebay does its best to try to persuade you to not to put conditions on your auctions by saying you`ll get more for it and more exposure but quite candidly its rather like a turkey trying to convince you that XMas is a bad idea .

My account is setup to only sell in the UK , to people with at least one good feedback and for any big items I sell I make it that they must have a Paypal account and pay through that . The one good feedback thing is for a timewasting thing Ive seen where someone opens an account , bids and wins on the big cost item and then closes their account leaving you with the pain in the arse of going through the hassle of getting the fees back and readvertising it - Im sure there is an angle for a scam on it somewhere but cant quite see it other than repeated doing of it might make the seller look dodgy and make people shy away from bidding on it - leaving the person to swoop in and get the item cheap ( My Mrs was going to sell her camera and was looking at others being sold and noticed one chap selling the same camera again and again over the period of a week or so , going into the details you could see the above happened ) .

The caveat of above is to look at peoples feedback in detail , Ive seen a few buying mobile cards for a pound a piece and racking up feedback off them .

^However that only works until you get the Nigerian people registering their ebay accounts as if they are from the UK^ :P

I have tried it and failed

It works in conjunction with the feedback and paypal required ...............as it says above , theyre only after higher price goods , Ive sold about a dozen or so (higher price) items and not had one issue . The scam with sending extra money and you send them money back should also be stopped . I`m not saying it covers everything , but anything it stops or reduces is welcome . As loath as I am to say it , Ebay is correct that it gives you a higher degree of safety .

You can adjust the amount of feedback that a bidder is required to have to make a bid , or put in a note to contact you by email if outside of it . Obviously it wont stop them messaging you , but I would suspect the fact that they cant bid would make them find another auction where they can .

ebay really has to be more aware of these problems. One time i bid on yankee season tickets and won for like $150 but the guy was a nigerian and asked for a western union money transfer outside of ebay. I was devastated

Did you not think to get his address and send him the cash..?

It's all sorted out now but the 2nd problem was that he didn't answer my messages so there was no way to get it.

he gave his address to me eventually and i sent the dvd back to him so all is fine now :)

Even though you got confused by the UK style postal codes system ;)

haha indeed. But now i know that it can be a real address although it looks like someone has typed random numbers & letters.

Haven't heard from the guy since but i guess he has received it..i even wrote a little letter for him
