"Brothers and Sisters" EP - true or fake?

Featured Replies

Hey..

Today, I found the Brothers and Sisters EP in a small record shop in my city. First, I was thrilled, and was ready to buy it .. but then I though, that this EP is pretty rare (2,500 copies I think?) - and I was wondering if this could really be true or a fake copy?

It seemed to be the original. It had all those original things, and it looks true. But I am still wondering, if there's a way to see if this is a fake or not? :\

I couldn't see the disk itself, since they keep those locked away, and you only get them when you buy the CD. So I could only see the cover, which seemed true though.

I told the shop owner to save it for me, and then I would come by tomorrow and buy it. I wanted to ask some Coldplay fans first ;)

.. so, what do you think?

Is it the one with 3 songs and on the cover it is them kinda in a car.

If so than I think it is real. I got it for $6.00 US. How much is it there?

I got it for $12.

...so I don't think it's real, because if there were only 2,500 copies of it first off iTunes wouldn't have it and it would be more money.

There area 3 general CD releases of the EP. None are over the top expensive (probably due to the re-release status); all have the same tracklisting. The original release and 2002 re-issue are solely through Fierce Panda with the serial of NING68CD. Both come in slimline casings. I'm not positive about properly designating an original from a 2002 release, but I've been told the original should come with a Fierce Panda mail insert, the CD art should present a large panda and the underside of the CD should have an '01' next to the serial. I'm working on purchasing an 02 for comparison.

OTW, you also have three US 2004 re-releases. These are MASS cheap don't spend more than $4). All are released through Fierce Panda/Brash (two times, with different serials) and Fierce Panda Sixthman. These re-issues are all housed in general jewel sleeves, and are easy to tell apart from the initial two UK/EU releases.

The more rare Bro and Sis release is the 7" vinyl. It'll usually run $60-$85 USD, depending on condition.

hope that helps you somewhat.

Thanks so much guys. Well, the one I found has 3 tracks on it, and has a 'Fierce Panda' slip inside the cover. It is also a slimline case, and the cover art is the right one.

I will go back to the record store, and look for that serial code. I think I'll buy it no matter what, though.

It costs 90 DKK, which is about $15 US Dollars.

Thanks for your help once again, I think I'm postive about buying it now. :)

I have all three CD releases of Brothers & Sisters.

As 66 has mentioned, I can confirm the difference between the original UK release and the 2002 reissue lies on the codes etched on the underside of the CD.

The original CD has NING68CD 01 %

The reissue CD has NING68CD 02 6

The 3rd issue is the US version which has been readily available and still easy to find. It isn't that rare though I'm not sure how many copies were pressed in the US.

no clue how many were pressed in the US (under both brash and sixthman under fierce panda. there are two different serials too...so probly many).

thanks a lot fo clarifying the 01/02 info with the original and secondary press; much much appreciated.

I found a new re-issue of Brothers & Sisters in a CD store in downtown Tokyo once!

I bought it here for what would be like $9 but I guess it's one of the re-released ones
