So... My hard-drive is f*cked

Featured Replies

Large error has appeared over the area where I keep my music which isn't a major drama as I got it backed up on an external hard-drive. What is the major drama is that I have lost my iTunes library (all the play counts) and my playlists.

Fair enough, but one of those playlists was "Dave's iPod playlist", which is slightly annoying because it was a hand-picked selection of songs.

Anyways, the purpose of this thread is. Make sure you keep a backup of your hard-drive and does anyone know how to get a "itunes music database file" or an "XML Document" back into iTunes?

How many songs does "Dave's iPod playlist" contain? Isn't it something you can put back manually?

It's about 900 songs. It will have to be a case of working though my iPod and making that playlist again.

I'm just trying to get everything back into that library, but it's annoying when iTunes pops up and if your not careful you hit stop to the import.

And now it is trying to copy every track twice.

u'r lucky u had everything backed up. i also keep my files backed up in my external HDD just in case.

I've had my hard-drive shit itself a few years ago...lost everything....although I don't store my music on the computer anymore...as they are all on CD's now.

I've had 3 hard drives in the last couple of months.

My original one died, so it got replaced. But the new one turned out to be faulty and lasted 3 weeks before dying itself. So now I have another replacement, which has last 2 weeks with no trouble so far.

Did lose a few things from the first one but nothing vital as fortunately I also back up everything to an external Hard Drive, Ipod, flash drive, CDs etc (except of course my Travis B Sides I've had to request again on here haha).

The most annoying thing is going through the process of reinstalling and downloading all the programs I use, and then updating them all again etc.

The Computer has gone into the shop to get a new hard-drive and clone the data across.

So I'm using my old laptop, which after an hour playing around managed to get connecting to the internet without AOL downloading updates every 2 minutes. The good thing is that I have net access, the bad news is that this laptop wasn't high-tech when it was designed...

...for windows 98, and even a "upgrade" a couple years ago with more memory/hard-drive it is a tad on the slow side.

And also the little green mouse button is so annoying to use :(

Oh bugger..I hope you get your PC back soon!!

Hard Disk

it is always necessary to make backup´s of the information, the best thing is to buy a external hard disk, save many problems.

Erm...if you read my other posts in this thread, you'll realize I'm not laughing at Dave's misfortune:rolleyes: . It HAS happened to me. I'm laughing at Oscar's joke...and at myself...I still use tapes, lol:embarassed:  .

Too Lazy to read other posts.....

I'm thinking about getting an external hard drive but i'm a little strapped for cash at the minute.

lol. Fair enough. Actually, looking back, it seems I didn't post in this thread...I thought I did. Anyway, I'd never laugh at a hard-drive crash. I almost lost How We See The World because of my piece o' crap. THank god for backups!

External hard-drives are coming down in price all the time. Me says you wait til the big Easter weekend sales, true shops will be busy, but there will be some good sales on.

Definitely get one if you can.

I've got a 100 gb one, although it's full and I always need more space. There's this Electronics superstore opening nearby tomorrow and they are doing a 320gb one for $249NZ (about 80 pounds) which I think is pretty cheap so I might get one.

Oh is it Dick Smith at Sylvia Park??

Indeed. Ah that's right, you are in Auckland too right? Gonna go and check it out?

I got a football match first thing in the morning anyway, my Dad is gonna go and check out the store early and I told him to get me one of those hard drives.

Oh nah but i wanted to...cant go as working all weekened!!

I did get that hard drive today. Also a couple of DVDs I've been after, inluding Travis - More Than Us Live In Glasgow that I'd been looking for for ages. $10 (about 3 pounds) so great price.
