Girls are bombarded by pictures of four 'impossibly perfect' images each day

Young girls are "bombarded" every day with images of digitally enhanced female beauty, a survey has found.

This can prompt feelings of low self-esteem, with 77 per cent of 11 to 14-year-olds feeling "fat, ugly and depressed" when they see images of celebrities and models, according to toiletries brand Dove.

British girls in this age group see four advertising images on average of "impossibly perfect" women every day, the poll of 1,000 youngsters found.

The Dove research included a snapshot survey of ten girls aged 11 to 14 who were asked to keep a diary of the beauty images they saw over a three-day period and the feelings these provoked.

One 14-year-old girl wrote: "The images I see in magazines make me feel sad because I know I could never be that beautiful."

Dove's survey highlights the theme of its new viral campaign called Onslaught, which shows a young girl seeing numerous images of female beauty.

Commenting on the findings, psychotherapist Dr Susie Orbach said: "Young girls are bombarded by millions of images of digitally manipulated, airbrushed beauty every day and research tells us that this onslaught can often be responsible for feelings of low self-esteem."

what u complaining bout u a guy :D

lol the American government wants you to be depressed demorilised and afraid that way the people are easier to govern (ie the people wont revolt)... and since most of the globes tv comes from America allot of ignorant ppl in other countries have followed suit...

if any 1 is unsure about this think about how much press coverage Paris Hilton gets... there is no reason she should be on tv.... this is pathetic coming from the same country that assassinated Kennedy

lol a survey on American middle schools showed that 60% of early teenagers couldnt find england on a globe...

yet many people around the globe still have the idea that America is the greatest country in the world... even though over 50% of them are obese and they are ranked 27 for there medical system....

this is stupid... a country with a c average president is ruling the world pfft screw diss im going to mars whos with me...?

Plus I always make fun of "celebrities". That's the way to do it.;)

though i like dresses a lot o.o

aaaand im never in that sexy girls thread, it scares me :uhoh:

Well I kinda.. have okay well I have an issue with my image but it's not inspired by celebrities I guess you could say or ads or pictures. I just, I'm a shy person and also I would like to wear the clothes I like so it becomes an issue when you can't find anything to fit you right or something showing or it doesn't look right on you and I don't like that. I just want to feel comfortable and be content about it.

This is just retarded.

How have any impecable images changed since, for example, the 60s?

Its society's reaction and tolerance to be able to look at, and stand up to, a fucking picture, thats going wrong.

Meh. I don't feel sad or depressed because of those girls. I don't want to look as though I'm near-death!

Anyway, if we all looked like them, we'd all be the same. No fun in that.

Yes - imagine if everyone looked like Sticktoria Beckham or Paris Hilton. What a nightmare that would be!!:stunned:

If we all looked just like Paris Hilton, we'd be ugly as death. No thanks.
