The 40-year-old TV chef made the comments during a promotional appearance on popular US programme The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. He told the host: "I had a French girlfriend. It was like going to bed with a rottweiler on your chest." He continued: "And their breath smells as well." His vitriol wasn't just reserved for the French - he also took the opportunity to complain about female drivers. He said: "They just drive a little bit too slow don't they." "They're always looking in the mirror. Look at the road! That way there will be less accidents. Gordon continued to shock the host by blasting American police as "cranky", adding: "They're so miserable. They need to liven up a bit." The chef, who was described as "intimidating" by Jay, made the appearance to promote his show Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
