you know i have heard many rumors about who this song was written about, the votes are in. its either gweneth or Johnny who do you think what if was written for?

I can't decide, some lyrics sound like they are for Gwyn, some sound like they are for Jonny, I would like it to be Jonny, cus I'm one of those people who want to see Chris and Jonny as a couple:P

Neither, didn't he say it was for his children, well child then, but you catch my drift..

The more I think about it, the more it sounds like it is for his kids.

and also he says that fix you they stole from elbow's songs.

 

and so on,they depend upon their favorite artists songs inspiration and the rest are all rumours.

about the other songs... well i really don't mind too much why them were written for, them have a meaning for me, that's why i like them. The good thing of it, is that each one of us have a different idea of their meaning, but we all like them anyways, that's Art :smug2:

 

btw is just normal how they create them, i mean that they feel inspired by other bands, their lives and things in general i think. :) i like it.

I've always thought that it was a collection of anxieties about all sorts of differnt people... family, friends, fans... anyone who means something.

 

That's the great thing about songs and poetry... it can sort of morph ideas together into something bigger than it would be if it was just about one person or thing.

Why would u want to see johnny and chris as a couple? Thats just disturbing.

I love how they are 2 of the best friends and that it shows in a lot of things, pictures, gigs, etc.

 

Anyways, on topic: I think some of the lyrics are based upon Chris's own experiences in love (Gwyneth maybe?). I don't think he wrote this song for one specific person tho. You make it sound like every song has to be written for someone.

Yeah, I remember that bit. He DID NOT actually say he was talking about 'What If' there, it was just edited to make it look like he was talking about 'What If'.

 

I think he was actually refering to 'Green Eyes' there, but of course he was also being silly, so who knows if he actually meant it...

i've heard coldplay playing what if in many concerts.it never seemed to me like its about one specific person.i always know chris takes a lot of shit in life.and especially when it comes to songs media just makes it huge and declares that its about family,i think this people has nothing to do with music and songs,i just hate them.But the fact is i don't believe it.i know he sometimes has to convince himself to say some words.but what's the fact he himself knows.

i never went to coldplay while they recording some songs in the studio and even not many people.only coldplay themselves know how they recorded some songs,but yeah
