Glastonbury 2008 - Coldplay Miss Out

170 days to go!

Michael Eavis has been dropping more clues as to who'll be playing Glastonbury, with it now looking very likely that Jay Z could be headlining.

After telling reporters he'd booked a 'Black American' to top the bill, Kanye West was immediately thrust into the frame, following his well received set at V Festival last summer.

But Eavis has since revealed that the mystery headliner comes from New York, Jay Z's home city, whereas Kanye West comes from Chicago.

The Glastonbury Festival founder told XFM: “I’ve got a big black American artist that’s going to appeal to the younger people that I’m thrilled about. He's a great artist from New York. And a great British female artist that’s going to support him”.

Two bands who definitely won't be playing are Radiohead and Coldplay, who both ruled themselves out following enquiries by Glastonbury's organisers.

Eavis told BBC 6Music: “For one thing, the bands aren’t available. Radiohead are doing their own thing and Coldplay aren’t around this year either. All other regular headliners, they just weren’t there basically, so we had to look elsewhere and we’ve found some stuff that we’re absolutely thrilled about.

“I can’t expect those [regular] bands to come and do it every time y’know? Radiohead have played about five times, and they’ve been so good to us. The best set of all time, in the past fifty years was Radiohead in 1997.”

But there will be some the usual staple of bands that make Glastonbury so special and the 72-year-old is extremely excited about some of the music he's programmed for the Jazz World stage.

He said: “Of course we’ve got a load of all the other faves, I’ve got a wonderful selection of bands playing on the Jazz World stage. We were after one of four bands for headlining the Jazz World stage, and I got all four! I couldn’t believe it, so yes, it’s looking good.”

Registration for this year's Glastonbury Festival will be open from 9am on 1 February until midnight on 29 February. Registration won't reserve or guarantee you a ticket but if you don't register you won't be able to apply for one when they go on general sale on 6 April.

Glastonbury Festival will be held on the weekend of 27-29 June at Worthy Farm in Somerset.

Michael Eavis Rules Coldplay Out For Glastonbury 2008

Coldplay won't be playing Glastonbury. Not this year anyway.

Michael Eavis has ruled out four massive acts who were previously rumoured to headline Glastonbury Festival 2008. But confirmed one of them for V!

Glasto favourites Radiohead, Muse and Coldplay will definitely NOT play this year's event, according to the 72-year-old farmer.

But he confirmed they were invited to play and insisted that they will be back at Worthy Farm in years to come.

He told VF during an exclusive interview: "When it suits them they’ll come and do it and if it doesn’t happen they’ll do something else.

"We can call on old friends, like Coldplay, but they’ve all done it so many times that it’s not fair for me to expect them to do it over and over again."

When asked about Muse, Eavis answered: "No because they’re doing the V’s [V Festival] aren’t they? They can’t do both really, it doesn’t really work doing both."

He also confirmed that Led Zeppelin were unsuccessfully approached for Glastonbury, but denied rumours the reformed rockers demanded too much money.

He said: "The money didn’t come into it, but the fact that Robert Plant is going to America with Alison Krauss during that period means that they are not available. It was nothing to do with money whatsoever.”

Glastonbury Festival takes place at Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, from 27-29 June. Stay posted for the full interview with Michael Eavis and more exclusive Glastonbury news.
