Briggins Tries to get into Coldplay Again [the documentary]

Featured Replies

I initially caused a stir by stating that I used to love Coldplay and now I don't. Some people said some not so nice things, some people said they have felt the same way.

Mo gave me this challenge.

Briggins! I have a challenge for you!

This thread got me to haul out my vinyl boxset and start randomly listening to some of the singles last night. Which put me in a massive Coldplay mood and gave me an idea... yeah, it's silly, but just play along. :wink2: Oh, and this won't work if you've listened to any music in the last hour or two, so give your ears a break first. Or maybe listen to the Joshua Tree first, that's what I was doing- it seems to work well as a hearing reset button.

You are being hypnotised. :dizzy: The year is 2004. X&Y does not exist. Coldplay are the critical darlings who in their short career have released two amazing albums. Radiohead released HTTT last year which was good, but certainly not their best work, and some fans are still making a stink about it. You are familiar with both bands.

Now, when you wake up, you are going to listen to the Coldplay song "Careful Where You Stand". Should you feel inclined you will follow it with "No More Keeping My Feet on the Ground", "For You", and "See You Soon", or anything that appears on the Safety EP.

You will realise that while Radiohead and Coldplay have similarities, they must be listened to in different ways, because they approach their music differently.

Now *claps hands* Wake Up!

:D

Tell me what you think, ok?

So its 8:49 PM and I am listening to Careful Where You Stand.

Its a good song, kind of forgot about it. Really relaxing, sounds really honest.

8:57 - Listening to See You Soon. This song is amazing.

Step it up a notch, but on some Brothers and Sisters (Trouble single version) or Such a Rush, Murders quite good also.

I don't have any of those on my computer. I'm going to listen to Parachutes now.

parachutes got me through my doubt of my love for coldplay, i hope the same happens for you!

I'm on Spies right now. So far so good :)

9:23 - Briggins catches himself singing Sparks outloud without realizing it.

9:42 - Briggins once again catches himself singing "We Never Change" out loud.

He wishes that X&Y was never released. Heck he would be okay without A Rush of Blood to the Head.

I don't think the year makes that much difference. and I think the different albums should be viewed differently. If you listen to X&Y while in the same mellow mindset as parachutes...of course it won't work.

Some of my favorite coldplay listening moments are listening to parachutes in bed at night in pitch darkness...and listening through AROBTTH laying down in the seat of a minivan in a drowzy state while driving through a big, bright city. Both experiences very hypnotic like the above experiment. But parachutes works best when accompanied by a dull, rainy, lazy morning. and AROBTTH works best when in a brighter (while no less immersive) atmosphere. It's more colorful overall. while parachutes is soothing to the bone.

lets be real A RUSH OF BLOOD is a much better album ,there getting better with time!!!parachutes is a soft cd good for rainy calm days but when you just want be outdoors or just have fun A RUSH OF BLOOD is more exicting come on lets be real

:laugh3: this is a funny thread

and I  parachutes

Stylistic differences taken into account I've always felt that AROBTTH is their best album by far. I mean...politik has to be the best way anyone could open an album and amsterdam is probably the greatest way to close. It's just more flavorful altogether I think.

 Glad you remembered my little experiment. And glad to hear that you are singing along. it's a good sign, I take it.

Nah, I'll stick to my comment. I would have been fine if it were never released.

Good for you, Briggs, for listening to Coldplay again! :nice:

Ha! this thread is pretty cool..

Like a movie..

"07:30 am. Briggins wakes up and brushes his teeth

08:00 am Birrings is waiting for a bus when a bird flies on his shouler and starts to sing "I'll see you soon" "

 Keep on going man!

ps. Never mind. I'm a bit tired.

10:19 Briggins has to put the AROBTTH listening on hold as I'm watching a hockey game instead.

Haha Briggs I just noticed this thread! I never come to this section anymore. it's really good, I'm on the challenge too.

^Ohh mann I love those hypnotic experiences .. I remember listening (sorry, it's Radiohead) to Kid A in the backseat of a dark dark car driving through the woods in the middle of the night for six hours (long story). So creepy....

^like driving through the woods in New Hampshire in the dark listening to Sigur Ros. :nice:

Actually one of my favorite times listening to Coldplay was when I was having a really bad day and nothing was going right and I had a deadline I was about to miss for something. Then I dropped a bowl of hot ravioli on the dining room floor and it shattered everywhere- tiny glass shards glued to everything with tomato sauce. Total emotional breakdown time.

So when I had pulled myself together enough to get a broom, I also got my copy of arobtth. I hadn't listened to it in months, and it just hit me like this massive emotional wallop, pulling me out of whatever hole I had been stuck in the bottom of. By the end of the album, I felt much better and the floor was finally clean. It was nice.

Heh... this thread makes me want to take my own challenge again. So I will.

Ooh why hadn't this thread popped up before? It's quite entertaining to follow! :D

Last night I was traveling home from the city listening to Radiohead for hours, mainly Kid A album. I was looking out the window to the dry drought stricken paddocks whilst Idioteque was playing. The lyrics seemed so appropriate.
