Coldplay apparently rented a former bakery

Chris Martin has reportedly revealed he hired a former bakery to become Coldplay's new headquarters.

He hired the site in Primrose Hill, north west London, to deflect attention, the NME reports. Chris told the music weekly he chose the building because it was so unappealing.

"I used to walk past it every day," he told the magazine. "For years I used to walk past it and think: 'What an ugly place'. Then, one day, a To Let sign appeared outside. I thought: 'Hmmm, that place is so ugly, I bet no one would bother us if we move in there'."

Guitarist Jonny Buckland added: "It's the first time we've had a proper band home since we were rehearsing in my student bedroom in 1999."

Martin also explained how Coldplay ended up working with Brian Eno, who produced 10 tracks on the band's new album. "It was Brian's idea," he said. "I would often meet up with him for tea and start playing tabla machines ... and that just turned into a year's worth of production."

Next week's NME contains a free 7in single featuring Violet Hill and a second song A Spell A Rebel Yell, which is exclusive to the vinyl.

So that Bakery address is correct? Part of me thinks "Yeah why not publish it online, every other business lets people know their address". But another part thinks "They're one of the biggest bands in the world with a lot of very expensive equipment (musical equipment) - how have they not been broken into/harassed by crazed fans?!" Anyone fancy a trip to the Bakery this summer?

COLDPLAY have taken over a bakery as their new headquarters.

Coldplay buy a bakery to use as base to promote album

COLDPLAY have taken over a bakery as their new headquarters.

But the X&Y hit-makers have no plans to make cakes.

Instead, the four-piece are planning to promote their forthcoming album from the former breadmakers.

And they are hoping the derelict-looking building will allow them to publicise Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends in peace, and no doubt make them plenty of dough at the same time.

Singer Chris Martin said of the building in Primrose Hill, north London: "For years, I used to walk past it every day and think, 'What an ugly place.'

"Then, one day, a 'to let' sign appeared outside. I thought, 'Hmmm, that place is so ugly, I bet no one would bother us if we move in there.' The singer also told NME that he chose the location especially because he felt the building's "ugly" appearance would deflect attention from the group and help them to avoid photographers.

Guitarist Jonny Buckland added that it was the first time the band had a place to call home since their student days. He said: "We've not had a proper band home since we were rehearsing in my student bedroom in 1999."

Fans of the band will be able to get their first taste of tracks from the album today.

The single Violet Hill can be downloaded for free from Coldplay's website from 12.15pm and readers of NME will receive a seven-inch vinyl, which includes Violet Hill and an exclusive copy of new track A Spell A Rebel Yell.

The band have also announced a sweet treat for fans to celebrate the launch of the album in the form of two free gigs. They will play London's Brixton Academy on June 16, and New York's Madison Square Garden on June 23.

Fans are advised to keep checking the band's official website http://www.coldplay.com for details. Fans in the UK can get their hand's on Coldplay's latest offering on June 12, after it was brought forward by four days to bring it in line with global release dates. The album comprises of 10 tracks produced by Brian Eno and Markus Dravs.

Chris added that the band ended up working with the legendary producer, who has worked with the Talking Heads, U2 and Paul Simon, after he used to meet the former Roxy Music star for tea.

He said: "It was Brian's idea. I would often meet up with him for tea and start playing tabla machines and that just turned into a year's worth of production."

Fans can also look forward to having their own piece of art as the band have used a classic painting by French Romantic painter Eugene Delacroix, from 1830, called Liberty Leading The People (La Liberte guidant le people).

It depicts a woman personifying Liberty in the French Revolution leading the army in their march over dead bodies holding the French tricolour flag aloft and is currently on display in The Louvre in Paris.
