In Rainbows = Music for Insomnia?

Featured Replies

I have listened to Radiohead's "In Rainbows" many times, and have found it most enjoyable after midnight. You know those nights when you're up thinking about everything and you just can't sleep? It's perfect for those nights, when everything feels weird and spacey and out of place. I must sound like an insomniac and I think I kind of am one.

Plus it just seems like sleeplesness is kind of a hidden theme in the songs/artwork. And VH1 had them do a special called Radiohead Live from the Basement and they only show it at midnight. Everything about the album just seems like it was written on sleepless nights for people to listen to on sleepless nights.

Does anyone else agree with this or at least have any idea what Im talking about?

Find a night when you dont have work or school the next day and stay up till like 3 in the morning. Then listen to "In Rainbows" especially 15 Step, All I Need, Nude, House of Cards, Jigsaw, and Videotape. These songs are really perfect for that time.

Ever heard of the Radiohead thread??

Regarding your question, while I understand In Rainbows has those subtle tones that may induce sleep I always prefer to listen to music during the day while wide awake. I lose concentration when I listen to it late at night.

^ its an actual discussion about the album not necessarily "Radiohead"..... so its acceptable. :)

- as for the album and listening after midnight..... I can see why. It makes me have happy dreams.... so yes. I can appreciate.

I usually listen to Kid A when I fall asleep.

But when In Rainbows came out I did listen to that and did find it rather relaxing. I think its one of those albums you can listen to and just not worry about anything else. A good calming album, but not boring put you to sleep...exciting put you to sleep!

Well, I usually listen to it when I go home/at uni/at practice etc, but also before I fall asleep (though rarely).

I do think the album is suitable for what you're saying, 2732.

Mezzanine by Massive Attack is my anti-insomnia. It never fails. Even when I'm more than half way through and I'm convinced it's not working, I often wake up hours later to discover that it did work.

I get you there. Although I must admit that I haven't listened to this album after midnight yet. But I do remember that I once turned off the lights in the late afternoon, lid some candles and lay on the floor and started listening to house of cards...a feeling I can't describe...

i'm going to turn this on like now, but i think i already get what you're saying :D. the first time i listened to it, it was rather lateish, about midnight i think.

but AROBTTH will always be my anti-insomnia. and boy do i need it.
