"Coldplay imitate Muse's live shows"

COLDPLAY star CHRIS MARTIN is so impressed by MUSE's live performances, he models his own concerts on the British trio's.

The Yellow hitmakers have been busy preparing to tour in support of new album Viva La Vida and Martin admits the stage show they have created is heavily influenced by hard rockers Muse.

He says, "We love making big shows up and trying to work out what lights will look cool. We get very nerdy about it because we can't believe we're allowed to do it.

"But we will never get as extreme as Muse. We'll let them do the biggest thing and then think, 'Okay, how did they do it?'

"We have always been a step behind Muse. They're so great live."

Coldplay will kick off the North American leg of their tour on 14 July (08) in Los Angeles.

Nice of Chris to 'let' muse do the bigger show, lol.I've never seen Muse live, but I've heard from friends that their show is monumental. (But Coldplay's is still going to be better because they have magic balls, lol.)

I've seen Muse live four times and nobody can touch them. Coldplay are different live, they put on a great show, but Muse live is something else.

Yep, I agree^ I have also seen them four times! :nice:

Muse were just (new)born to play live shows and nothng else!!!!! It's all the weird little tunes the guys play in between songs...songs like Stockholm Syndrome and Citizen Erased are something else live.

(sorry for the cheesy joke there haha)

Haha, dont worry, i use (super)massive all the time. It ticks my friends off no end. I haven't seen Muse live but I know from Youtube and HAARP that their shows are seomthin' else. Coldplay have that sort of connection with the crowd where as Muse blow the crowd away. But both bands are fanta-stic live

I've noticed that heaps of bands are doing the whole "balloon" thing. Coldplay with Yellow...Muse with Blackout, Mika. etc

"We have always been a step behind Muse. They're so great live."

Quite a pompous thing to say. they're more like a million miles behind Muse! I love Coldplay live, don't get me wrong but that's just laughable.

I'm still envious of you all for seeing Muse live...:(

LOL

Funny that you mention this because Muse has been using balloons with confetti in their gigs since 2000/01 ;) They have even explained what the inspiration for that came from (a cult TV show, btw).

I always thought Coldplay had borrowed the idea from Muse, they seem very friendly with each other anyway.

Muse and Coldplay are great bands. I love 'em both.

But at the moment, I pick Muse. The trio (and Morgan, hahah) are practically MADE for live shows. Even without all that glorious stage flairs and setups, they can still deliver; their music is extremely suitable for epic live performances. :D

I still think Coldplay's better off with a relatively-stripped down stage set for performances. Would also help with Chris's 'consistency' with singing. But one thing they're really good at is crowd-interaction; that's what also helps them to be a good live act.

It's because balloons are the coolest things ever (after Coldplay, of course!) lol

I think Chris means it in a sense that they've always been a "step" behind Muse as in, from wayyyy back, when Muse would win battle of the bands and Coldplay wouldn't, when Muse would headline small fests (In the City) and Coldplay wouldn't, and when Coldplay would straight up support Muse...

obviously now Coldplay is a bit "bigger" than Muse, but he's acknowledging that they're still behind them

how far is irrelevant.

still have to see Muse live. come back to chicago please!!! (and seeing them outside of lolapallooza doesn't count! lol)

wow I love muse and after seeing the HAARP DVD (never seen them live) I think it would be hard that coldplay do something like that
