October 26, 200817 yr What is the guitar that Chris is using in Chinese Sleep Chant? It looks like a mix of about 3 Fenders. Can someone please elaborate?? Thanks!
October 26, 200817 yr Author Well, it definately has humbucker pick-ups. But it has a weird head i thought. But I can't rightly remember. If someone can, can you please post some pictures of it up here as well? Does anyone have any info on this guitar?
October 26, 200817 yr I'm sure it's a Telecaster Deluxe from the 70's. They have humbuckers, a pickguard that doesn't differ that much from the thinline, and a strat-head. This model came to life together with the humbucker Thinline in '72
October 26, 200817 yr Actually, both of Chris' Tele Deluxe's are the reissue ones, not vitage 70's models. Basically, the main difference is that the pickups are now more sonically(sp?) similar to gibson humbuckers as opposed to the tone of the original fender wide range pickups. He's been using these guitars since at least as far back as the AROBTTH tour.
October 27, 200817 yr "Ahh.. i was sure they were vintage" Maybe they are now. I do know that at least as recently as the Twisted Logic Tour he was playing reissues though. However, the ones he used to use were black, so this one could be new (old rather).
October 28, 200817 yr Author Cool, thanks very much!!! Brilliant guitar. I'll add it to wish list! Does he use it for any other songs apart from Chinese Sleep Chant in the setlist?
October 28, 200817 yr Author Can anyone find a link for it on the Fender website?? I can't find it there! EDIT: Wait. I take that back. Just found it!! http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0137702392 - for anyone that's interested.
October 29, 200817 yr Cool, thanks very much!!! Brilliant guitar. I'll add it to wish list! Does he use it for any other songs apart from Chinese Sleep Chant in the setlist? He also used in Low and God Put A Smile Upon Your Face (Remix + Brixton Academy Concert)
November 1, 200817 yr I don't think he currently uses it live for anything but CSC, but he's used them fairly extensively in the past. Usually though in the past, he played an all black model. Thom Yorke also uses one a lot, but I know for sure his is vintage.
November 27, 200817 yr Found a vid of chris using the one i posted earlier [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCJGVmBd2ng]YouTube - coldplay performing an intimate set back in 2002/3 part 1[/ame] btw: great intro on this version of "don't panic"
November 27, 200817 yr Oh I've been wanting a Stratocaster since High school! But since my Dad got me a Yamaha acousic guitar for my 15th birthday, I can't just ask him for another one! haha By the way, what's the difference between a Stratocaster from a Telecaster?
November 27, 200817 yr There is the difference in shape, for instance. For the more nitty-gritty stuff, I'll leave it to the experts here to explain :nice:

November 27, 200817 yr The Telecaster has a more "twangy sound" from it's bridge pickup. The telecaster only has two pickups, while the strat has three. Now i'm talking about the standard models. There are several varieties of the two models, and especially the telecaster. The thinline and deluxe has double humbuckers to complement the standard version, who has double singlecoils. It's all about taste and use.

So, I still prefer a Strat. :P

So, I still prefer a Strat. :P The twangy sound is a combo of the pickup placement and the resonance of the guitar. You could probably replicate it to some degree, but a Strat will never sound like a tele and vice versa. And that's a great thing really :P
November 27, 200817 yr Admittedly, I've not played a Strat before :embarassed: But I love my Thinline's sound. It's true that it's all up to your personal preference. Others can give you advice, but only you can decide what is best for yourself :nice:

It's just a matter of finding the right combination of guitar/amp/effects. Here's a vid of me playing around with everything's not lost: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KijmnEme9lc]YouTube - Coldplay - Everything's Not Lost cover (electric guitar) - Parachutes[/ame]
