I'm pretty good at song analysis. What about it are you analyzing?

 

• First summarise the lyrics. What is the song about? What ideas and emotions are expressed? How do the words relate to you chosen theme?
  
• Describe the structure of the song. How many verses and chorus does it have? Are these all of similar length?
  
• Look carefully at the techniques used in the lyrics. Many of these will be similar to the techniques used in poetry. Identify the main techniques used, give examples and explain the effect acheived.
  
• What style of musci is the song (genre). Is it fast or song? Identify the instruments used and describe the singers voice. Describe the mood and emotion created by the music. You also need to explain how this conveys the songs message.
  
• Finally give your opinion on the song. Do you like it? What was more effective, words or music? Was it effective in acheiving its purpose?
