Space Cadet
Can't wait for Coraline. I just read the book and it was so, so, so good. And the stop motion looks amazing! I'm new to Gaiman's stuff- was introduced to his writing by certain people who keep on quoting his (excellent) blog and twitter, and then Stardust. What a writer! :surprised: I'm very quickly becoming obsessed... must.. find... sandman..
Space Cadet
(Since I was going to make a Coraline thread and then you made this one first...) julissofine
I always love fantasy stories and books. Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite writers of that genre, but I must say that his stories are kind of dark and gloomy. I've read Coraline and can't wait for the movie as well. Since this is a Neil Gaiman thread, what do you guys think of Stardust both the book and the movie? I know the movie is funny and has so many differences from the book, but for me it's ok cause I've learned not to compare a book with its movie. :D I really like the comedy side of the movie though, I mean captain shakespeare and all. :nice:
Space Cadet
I loved the movie. I just finished reading the graphic novel (it came before the book) and even with pictures it was very difficult to get the movie out of my head which was distracting. But I loved it too. They really are so different... it's like the movie is trying to be another Princess Bride, and the book is trying to be an old fashioned fairy story. (I say fairy story, because he's clearly read Tolkien's "On Fairy Stories"...)
julissofine
True. It happened to me as well cause I saw the movie first then read the book, and I was like 'where's capt shakespeare? why isn't he in the book?' :D But I like both for different reasons. I just bought The Graveyard Book yesterday. Can't wait to read it.
ClairVoyant
I love Neil Gaiman. I read his book Stardust. I saw the Coraline 3D movie too. Everything he writes is like a fairy tale to me. Then I feel like a kid again. :dozey: He's a great writer. And he looks HOT for his age. Nice hair. :)
julissofine
Speaking of hotness :nice:, Neil looked pretty cute at his younger age. :D I didn't get why he said it was an embarrassing photo. :laugh3: Read his journal here.
Space Cadet
Said it elsewhere but I'll burst if I don't say it again: He's writing Doctor Who! :nice:
Reilly
Erin I guess I don't hate all of your hobbies! Gaiman is an incredibly talented and versatile author, I've read 4 of his books and I recognise his talent to appeal to many different people, but not just for commercial sake. Oddly, after reading his books, I found out about his partner Amanda Palmer (of Dresden Dolls and her solo work) who I've also appreciated during the same time, but didn't acknowledge the two were connected. What was your favorite? He's very quickly become my favorite living author. Yeah he and Amanda haven't been dating publicly all that long, though they're engaged now... I hadn't heard of anything but the name Dresden Dolls until he started talking about her all the time online. (Talk about relationships you can see coming. :laugh3:) But I like her now. She's crazy. In a good way.
