Radiohead week: OK COMPUTER

Take a look at this album cover, when you see it, what comes to your mind?

Do you know about this album? When was it created?

June 1997, Radioheas has released their third LP, and critics began to praise them, most of them agree that it is one of the best albums of the 90's, and some others say one of the best albums ever created. In that time, Radiohead became the biggest band in the world.

But what's so special about it? Just look at the cover, it is a sober cover indeed, but full of meaning and excellent music. This album touches perfection, with a matture band writing about deep stuff, and with musicians letting their musicianship run wild.

You can hear a development on their sounds, they discovered that computers and electronic can generate music but not forgetting about their instruments, with amazing bass lines and perfect drum timing that make the rythm, and the characteristic atmospheric sound of their three guitars. When all these got in the studio, an exquisite mix of rock shocked everyone, and it keeps doing it.

12 tracks, flawlessly recorded, will make you shiver, rock out, cry or relax... this is one of my favourite albums, andI highly recommend you to buy it now, and listen to it, and discover amazing sounds that can take you to space, or to the deepest part of your heart

since we can choose multiple songs for favorite in the poll, would you like us to pick just one song or a few?

I voted for several.. :uhoh:

This album really means a lot to me in terms of Radiohead. Before I even got into the band I was given a burned copy from a friend of my brothers, and he told me to check it out. Radiohead was one of his favorite bands and he felt that I would like them as well. Giving a first listen to the album I was thinking to myself "What's the big deal?". I found the music to be extremely depressing, particuarly the vocals and I didn't like them at all. I remember the only two songs I liked were Karma Police (of course, because it's the most popish), and believe it or not Exit Music (For a Film).

I liked Karma Police initially because I felt it had the most melody and the melodic line was subconsciously familiar (I wouldn't find out until a few years later that it was strongly influenced by the Beatles song "Sexy Sadie"). I really liked Exit Music because mainly the drums coming in and the melody that followed. I found the song to be extremely depressing sounding but I really liked it a lot!

It wouldn't be until a few years later that I would dive back into radiohead's material. Both OK Computer and The Bends are what ended up getting me into the band. Although I cannot exactly remember what songs I liked in what order I do remember that I really liked No Surprises, Lucky, The Tourist, Climbing up the Walls, and Paranoid Android once I started to get into the band.

It was really this and The Bends that got me into the band, and that's where I guess you can say I fell into the Black Hole of what is known as Radiohead, because since I've gotten into the band I have not found a point in time where I go over a week without listening to them.

This was a groundbreaking album of the 90's, and so many bands have tried to attempt to achieve the same amount of success with a similar sound (Coldplay, Muse). Regardless of how many more or great/amazing albums Radiohead release, this one will always be one of the defining albums of Radiohead's career.

This and Madonna's Ray of Light were probably the two albums my mom played most in the late 90s, so the two will always be connected in my mind

But I really liked it when I was little, even though I didn't pay attention to lyrics back then (which was probably a good thing). I thought they all sounded 'fun', especially No Surprises. For some reason, I thought it was a song about going into space. The whole album would have been my soundtrack to the moon. Also, the thought of 'buzzing like a fridge' made me giggle. (My actual buzzing annoyed my sister.)

When I actually started paying attention to the lyrics and really considering them, it was like discovering a brand new album. They made me think, which gave me a new appreciation for music in general. I really enjoyed just sitting back and contemplating each track. The Tourist, Exit Music and Fitter Happier also became favorites.

I'll also credit OKC inspiring many sad conversations with Microsoft Sam and, along with Don't Panic, getting me into Hitchhiker's Guide. (I'm starting to understand why I thought this was an astronaut's album.)

I find OK Computer is Radiohead's most overrated album. I've never felt absolutely in love with it and listened to it endlessly.

That being said it is a fantastic album. Some of their best songs are on it for sure. And some of the songs have a lot of meaning to me.

Especially the Tourist. Its kind of personal but something cool happened while I was alone late at night listening to it.

Same.

Kid A

Amnesiac

In Rainbows

The Bends

OK Computer

The Tourist was actully the first song that I cryed to. I feel like it really connects to me that's why I love it so much.

I don't think I've cried while listening to that one.

But I have cried while listening to Lucky. Damn calculus!

I've never cried to a Radiohead song, but i've come close with Let Down... such an emotional song
