A band that literally came together from being tormented by the weather, the members of alternative prog rock band Phlox met through sleepless nights in online forums and outdoor activities. They’ve been gigging and writing songs for the past 4 years and have a 4-track EP and an album called "Quiver" that’s available for streaming on Bandcamp. Phlox, which means flame-coloured flower in Latin, does feel a little Pink Floyd-ish at times, but maintains an overall mystical aura courtesy of dissonant arrangements that stray away from the normal 4-chord pop formula. You might want to listen to their new segmented single "YWNTS" which contains 4 compositions of total 25 minutes. Now’s a great time as any to discover Phlox as they are currently adding the finishing touches to their new, self-produced album "YWNTS", which should be out in mid-2013.

You remind me a little of Voxtrot, were you inspired by them (or any similar indie band?) I can hear the Coldplay influences as well.

 

You really made a professional sounding recording here. Did you go into the studio, or record at home?

most of our songs were influenced by many bands from 60's untill now, like Beatles, Pink Floyd and Bowie to Echo & the Bunnymen and Talking Heads to Radiohead and Coldplay to Arcade Fire and Mgmt.
